Hey guys....
Planning my next trip for later this year...have only been once before, in 2002.
Is the Morazan still chica-friendly? Still no guest fee? Has anything changed in a big way since '02?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
I was there in March.
Overall, it is still a viable alternative, though I am looking for something better.
Pluses:
Location
Interior rooms are relatively quiet
Get the Tico Times ad and get a lower rate ($42?)
Safes in most rooms, fee for key
Good price
They allow more than one girl in your room
Minuses:
They did charge me for guests ($5 I think)
Some of the rooms do NOT have safes, and/or they lost the keys
Some of the rooms smell very musty/mouldy
Some of the rooms have plumbing problems (one had a bad shower and
another had an easily stopped up toilet)
Their "free internet access" is in the lobby/casino has a keyboard that
hardly works, and this is representative of their "don't give a shit
about upkeep" attitude
The "concierge", some fat guy, can be annoying as hell, trying to get you to go with HIS taxi driver so he gets a commission, insisting on carrying your bag up to the room even though you only have one and would rather carry it yourself, etc... He's very pushy and phony.
So my friend and I each had single rooms, and we came and went there several times over 2 weeks, so we ran the gamut of their rooms and service. Some nights the room was good, everything was great. Other nights, the room was so bad we had to ask to change it, and we had no safe key, bad shower, etc. to contend with.
When you get there: CHECK YOUR ROOM CLOSELY. Make sure the shower DOES have hot water, check it (one room I had, had ONLY hot water, no cold, so it was too hot to use); check the toilet to see if it flushes good... If they are full, they'll tell you they can't change it until tomorrow, and then it's a big hassle, as you have to wait around til afternoon, etc. to change everything over...
Be just as pushy with the concierge as he is with you. Just say NO to carrying your bag for you. Just say NO to his taxi driver. Just say NO to his b.s..
There is also some super hot chick who works at the desk, but she's a total BITCH. Wasn't going to give us a room, said there were none, until the Manager came over and said "Wait, we can put them in this one...". And so we got a room. She has sa very bad attitude. Must be some chick the owner is phucking or something.
So overall, my opinion is this:
It's hit and miss with the Morazan.
This COULD be a GREAT hotel if they'd take care to keep it in good repair, splurge on having those new safe keys made, splurge the $20 or so on a new keyboard for the computer, make sure the plumbing works, and tell that 'concierge" to take a chill pill.
