Hey guys....

Planning my next trip for later this year...have only been once before, in 2002.

Is the Morazan still chica-friendly? Still no guest fee? Has anything changed in a big way since '02?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

They have the same doorman (Ricardo) but the english speaking staff no longer includes Alonzo who was fired about 9 months ago. He used to look out for us Mongers. I don't know if anyone else does. The price should cost you about $42.00 per night if you can beleive the ads they run. The location is the biggest thing they got going for them - just a half block from the DR.

I was just there 2 weeks ago. $42 a night plus tax and the safe fee.... no chica fees at all. And do call you when the chica leaves, before they give her her id back.... that feature I like...

The location is the biggest benefit, one block to the DR and around the corner from the park entrance to KL.

I know the Pres has better rooms and non mongering guests. But the bottom line for me, I'm in SJ to monger, I like being a somewhat cheesy hotel with other mongers checking out each chica going up and down...

I was there in March.

Overall, it is still a viable alternative, though I am looking for something better.

Pluses:
Location
Interior rooms are relatively quiet
Get the Tico Times ad and get a lower rate ($42?)
Safes in most rooms, fee for key
Good price
They allow more than one girl in your room

Minuses:
They did charge me for guests ($5 I think)
Some of the rooms do NOT have safes, and/or they lost the keys
Some of the rooms smell very musty/mouldy
Some of the rooms have plumbing problems (one had a bad shower and
another had an easily stopped up toilet)
Their "free internet access" is in the lobby/casino has a keyboard that
hardly works, and this is representative of their "don't give a shit
about upkeep" attitude
The "concierge", some fat guy, can be annoying as hell, trying to get you to go with HIS taxi driver so he gets a commission, insisting on carrying your bag up to the room even though you only have one and would rather carry it yourself, etc... He's very pushy and phony.

So my friend and I each had single rooms, and we came and went there several times over 2 weeks, so we ran the gamut of their rooms and service. Some nights the room was good, everything was great. Other nights, the room was so bad we had to ask to change it, and we had no safe key, bad shower, etc. to contend with.

When you get there: CHECK YOUR ROOM CLOSELY. Make sure the shower DOES have hot water, check it (one room I had, had ONLY hot water, no cold, so it was too hot to use); check the toilet to see if it flushes good... If they are full, they'll tell you they can't change it until tomorrow, and then it's a big hassle, as you have to wait around til afternoon, etc. to change everything over...

Be just as pushy with the concierge as he is with you. Just say NO to carrying your bag for you. Just say NO to his taxi driver. Just say NO to his b.s..

There is also some super hot chick who works at the desk, but she's a total BITCH. Wasn't going to give us a room, said there were none, until the Manager came over and said "Wait, we can put them in this one...". And so we got a room. She has sa very bad attitude. Must be some chick the owner is phucking or something.

So overall, my opinion is this:
It's hit and miss with the Morazan.

This COULD be a GREAT hotel if they'd take care to keep it in good repair, splurge on having those new safe keys made, splurge the $20 or so on a new keyboard for the computer, make sure the plumbing works, and tell that 'concierge" to take a chill pill.

Miguel Blanco - Your review of the Morazan had me laughing because it is so on point including the tude of the hot bitch at the front desk. The showers are hit or miss and if they miss they suck. I did not pay a chica fee though.

The location of the place is great and the price is great. Right next door to the Key Largo. In fact you can walk out the street entrance of the Key Largo and you are steps away from the Morazan. Also, breakfast at the rail in the News Cafe (Presidente) is steps away from the Morazan.

IF THEY ONLY PUT SOME MONEY IN THE PLACE TO FIX IT UP. If they did upgrade/update the place, it would be a great place to stay but as of now it's only a last option for me if the usual suspects are booked.

My usuals suspects are: Sportsmens, Amon Plaza, Presidente and Del Rey.

I'm staying at the Hotel Castillo in May for the first time and hopefully after my stay I can add it to my list of usual suspects.

If anyone needs contact info for the Morazan, here it is:

Thanks for the info, guys...

Definitely the best thing about the Morazan is the location. Last time I was there, the room wasn't anything special, which is fine by me, because quite frankly, I don't go to CR for the decor. However, hot water is a must & I didn't have a problem with that, or anything else for that matter. It was also great to be able to stagger back there & be in bed within 5 min!

How far away from the DR is the Sportsmen's?

YO Bobzilla:

Be sure to ask for a room with a bed that has not been phucked in. Or rent the same one that I just previously used.

It's only a few blocks. About a 10 minute walk during the daytime, or a 3 minute taxi ride at night.

I was on the SL website & nowhere does it mention AC....is it not air conditioned? Or is it just too obvious a thing to put on a website?

Some of their older rooms do not have A/C, but the rooms in the new wing have A/C. But, IMHO, most of the year you do not need A/C. Usually the ceiling fan is good enough. You'll enjoy it there.
