Thats 11-12 blocks to the BM which is a 15 minute walk for me (or a 30-60 minute walk for GG or Zebra )

Very funny Prolijo :P :D You misunderstood my comment, I was not describing my walking speed, but some of our members who may be a little out of shape. Not eveyrone is Speedy Gonzalez!

11-12 blocks would be under 10 mins for mr BTW!

I had a very pleasant stay at Doral and just returned. It is the perfect location for me and $24 and change without breakfast. The desk and gate are manned 24 hours a day.The clerk speaks at least limited English.Rooms are clean comfortable and likely the best in town for the price. The hotel is girl freindly but $5 chica fee is charged but no big deal.It would compare it to a clean US budget motel though less modern than the newer ones.It was very quite at night which is a plus as I don't sleep a lot and don't like being disturbed when I do.Security and customer service are very good.Only problem is first night they put me in a tiny room with only single bed but on my complaint they moved me to a much larger room which was very pleasant.I would definitely stay there agian particularly on a short trip.rbc100

GG,
LOL. Actually when I was walking back from the Park Hotel that night I did it in under 5 minutes. But I was walking fast part of the way to get away from a group of shady looking guys that were approaching me saying "Hey meester, you wait, hey meester!" I didn't feel like stopping to talk to them and seeing what they wanted. A helpful cabbie pulled up and told me I should be careful walking around that area and asked if I needed a ride. I said "muchos gracias, pero no" and proceeded the rest of the way without incident.

RBC100, thanks for the info. Will be checking in late tonight. My flight leaves Houston at 5:50 pm, 3 1/2 hour flight, baggage wait, immigration, taxi ride to hotel and hope to arrive by 10 pm or so.

Hopefully my room is still reserved, as I called again yesterday and they reassured me it will be available.

Will report on the experience when I get back next week.

Yo

Stayed at the Hotel this past Labor Day Weekend. All in all, not a bad little place for $28/night including breakfast and taxes. The management was extremely helpful and willing to bend over backwards to help you.

I do have two minor complaints:

1) Noise: I was on the top floor (5th) overlooking Calle 8, and it was definitely noisy. The glass must not be all that thick and the clubs below would play there music till 5 am and then the street vendors would start with there yelling around 6am. So bring your earplugs, this definetely helps. A meet a fellow CRT member there, bombaro35, who had a extra set. Many thanks to him for loaning me a pair.

2) Safe: It took a while to get use to the fact that all the safe boxes are on the 1st floor in a vault, so I would have to depend on the manager to put his key in, then mine. If you lose your safe key it is $50 to replace, so I had to go back upstairs as I did not want to carry it around town to the MP's. May lose it taking off my pants so many times  .

Other than that, the breakfast was okay and you had a choice of 4 menu items, located on the 5th floor with a nice view of the mountains. The chica fee is $5.00 and the chica needs her I.D. or else may be a problem getting her in.

All in all, many thanks to RBC100 for bringing this really nice hotel to my attention. You really cannot beat it for the price. Always take a taxi at night however, cause, it is not in the best part of town. Walking in the daytime was not a problem. BRING EARPLUGS. Will probably end up there again on my next trip.

Yo

I have stayed there. Always ask for an inside room as they are quiter. The rate quoted usually includes breakfast. The restaraunt is only open for breakfast. The bellboys will run to nearby restaraunts and are very reliable. I do not stay there very often as my "Main Squeeze" has been banned by the Manager, Nelson. Otherwise, I think it is a good deal if you are on a budget or just want to get away from the usual places.

Thank you RBC100 for this find.I stayed there for 7 days over labor day. I paid $26.80 a day including breakfest. All of the front desk people spoke good english and met all of my requests. $5.00 chica fee that I paid twice while I was there.
I really liked eating breakfast at the 6th. floor resturant looking out over the town and the mountians. Good menu with 4 options from eggs and ham to fresh fruit all served with coffee and OJ.
The staff were all friendly and great with fresh sheets upon request.
I looked at a few rooms and chose a inside room with a nice size queen bed. No view but quieter. TV in english. Nice bathroom with hot water shower. Your safe is downstairs and 2 keys are needed to open it, yours and the front desk person. I felt secure with that. The room key is a electronic card that they take a $7.00 deposit on and return upon checking out.
I would suggest ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. A resturant is about a half block away with dinner about $3.50 to $4.50.
I walked to many MP's during the daytime with no problem and taxi's appeared needed after the working people went inside for the night, which seemed to be around 8:30 pm. I felt I recieved a good value for the money and will return there. The door man loves to see you bring back chicas. I met Yoamolatinas there and it was great to have a wing man to explore with.

I stayed there for 4 days and for the most part liked it. I had some of the same problems that others have said.

-No A/C, I had a ceiling fan that looked like it was from the 50's
-Very loud (bring ear plugs as someone else said)
-No Parking (closest parking lot that is 24hrs is 3 blocks to the east) If you rent a car like I did
-Not safe, had a few guys follow me around and bother me.

I had a rate of 23 dollars a day with no breakfast

I became friends with one of the guys that works there, his name is Misael and email is hdoral@racsa.co.cr

If I did it all over again this last trip I would have just stayed at the Del Rey and NOT rented a car. I believe its worth the extra money to not worry about getting around and is very nice being able to just go downstairs and find a tica. IMHO

I was in CR last 05/29/05 thru 06/02/05 and stayey at the Doral I was a nice clean hotel for the price. The only thing that I didn't like was it was a far walk to all the action of the gluch. I was very comfortable walking in the early evening but always cabbed it back at night , although did walk back one night and was very uncomfortable doing so simce I did get lost. However you famillar with SJO then I DO recommend the Doral

I stayed at Hotel Doral for two weeks off and on last summer. The people at hotel are wonderful. Area is ok in daytime-but keep turning head 360 degrees at night. Also a bar brothel on corner-bar on bottom floor walk up stairs to bar-brothel. I have stayed in area many times and have never had problem
