Rolex,
Admittedly its a fine line and perhaps that is reason enough to avoid any sort of political reference altogether, but I think a distinction can be drawn for arguing against the particular policy of one side or the other and throwing about derogatory labels against those who support policies that you happen to disagree with. The term Liberal once just meant a relative position on the political spectrum, but "knee-jerk"

rightwingers have turned it into a term of derision. When someone criticizes the current administration they are merely exercising their constitutional right to free expression. You may take that as a personal insult, but it is not intended that way, just a difference of opinion. When somebody here hurls about labels that could reasonably seen as applying to other members, that is getting personal and stepping over the line.
Our country is more polarized now than at any time in our lifetime. You either love or hate Bush. There is usually no in between. Bush himself is largely responsible for this. When he was first elected (or should I say installed in office by Judges that were nominated by past Republican Presidents), he refused to see his "victory" for what it was, tainted at best. At the very least, he clearly lost the popular vote, but instead of recognizing more citizens voted for the so-called "Liberals" than voted for him and adopting the more moderate postions of Republicans like John McCain to help heal the wounds of the campaign battles and bridge the divide, he somehow took it as a mandate to advance the conservative agenda of the right wing of the Republican Party. Last year he won the presidential election (for the first time) but again by a very slim percentage of votes, and yet he again twisted that to somehow mean he had earned "political capital which he was going to spend". So you'll have to forgive us long ignored and derided "Liberals" from getting some satisfaction when the rest of the country (now 60%) finally is starting to recognize that the emperor hasn't been wearing any clothes. You don't see Dubya crowing about any political capital now, do you?
