What a guy! Always nice and welcoming. Use to offer me free drink everytime I seen him. He knows I don't drink anymore but was fun banter. Found out I was there for my birthday one year and went get me a 1964 Padron cigar. My favorite at the time. I rarely receive gifts for my birthday. I never forgot that kindness. You will be missed Bill. Rest in eternal peace.

Always a smile and a wave when I came in to check the Inventory of Chicas.
R.I.P. Bill

I first met Bill back in 2004 upon my first visit to Costa Rica. I have been coming back 1-2 times per year ever since then and have always enjoyed my stay at the Lodge. Bill made it a point to say hello and shake your hand and welcome you back every time he saw you. It made the Sportsmans seem like a home away from home. He will always be missed.
RIP

There are many places, outside the US, to indulge in our hobby. Bill made Costa Rica special.

Boynton, you’re in country, maybe you know the answer to some of these questions

1) What kind of services will be conducted in Costa Rica?

2) Is Costa Rica going to acknowledge his contributions as a long-time businessman?

3) Will he be interred in Costa Rica or returned to the USA?

4) What’s going to happen to SL?

I ask these questions because of all the rumors now being generated.

Any answers are most appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Wow! Just WOW! One of the highlights of every trip has been time spent with him and others at the SL. Everyone is right. He was the consummate host. No matter where you stayed.
Rest in peace Sir!

Unfortunately I learned this morning that Bill the owner of the Sportsman Lodge has past away. He was a great person that will be missed by many. I consider myself fortunate to have known him and be a friend. A lot of great memories in and out of his establishment. Best wishes to everyone that is impacted by his passing. I could not post the image but here is the text from it:

No words to describe or express my heartfelt condolences to Bill's family & friends. We were there at the beginning of it all and had some unbelievable memories that were created. He was more than just a friend to me and the CRT community as he was part of something that will never ever be forgotten.

Things are different in C.R. now, and with Bill's passing they will never be the same.

RIP my old friend may you soar with the angels.
Tomas

What a great gentleman! He always made time to greet me when he saw me during the many years I have gone to San Jose. Condolences to his family for their loss.

I first stayed at the SL in early 2005. I came upon the place by accident and have never looked back. I tried to stay there at least part of every trip to San Jose. The place was a lot smaller back then and every time I returned, things were bigger and better.

My main reason for returning, besides the accommodations and the ladies, was that Bill was a consummate host always making you feel welcome and ensuring your stay was as close to perfect as possible.

As chance would have I will be landing on the day of the memorial service honoring Bill. If my flights are on time I should be able to make it to pay my respects. To say he will be missed is an incredible understatement. Rest well Bill and thanks for the great memories.

They should make a statue of him and put it in one of those parks. It could be Parque Morazon or that one in front of INS.

They could put the statue along the walkway from the street to the entrance of the SL. Him with a smile and a wave as mongers walk past.

Another good idea. Maybe name the street after him, “Calle Bill.”

Damn. I hardly ever visit CRT anymore, and when I do, I find out another great and unforgettable person has passed.

Rest in Power, Bill and thanks for the memories.
