I came to Jaco to celebrate my birthday. I don't do this very often, but thought I was familiar with the rules from all the research I had done.

I went to the Hotel Cocal. Most of the girls there were cheap whores, but there was one girl who seemed really nice.

We agreed to go back to my place. All along the way, and even after we arrived, she asked if we could get drugs. I said I don't do hard drugs. She offered some weed. I said I already had some, but she still offered to get more.

Bitch spent most of the time in the bathroom doing rails. Each time she came out she was more fidgety and nervous.

She ran into the bathroom. Came out and said "I get the weed" and ran out the door.

I gave it a minute. Then I checked my wallet. Empty.

Looked outside to see not a person in sight.

Went back to Hotel Cocal to report one of their regulars is a crook. Was told by the staff that what happens between you and any girl is up to you. They are not responsible. I should contact the police.

Went to the police station. 3 miles away. Had to take a cab even though this bitch just took all of my money. Was told there was nothing there could do. Go back to Cocal and ask for a manager.

Went back to Cocal. Manager "just left". Come back tomorrow.

Up until now, I always thought Costa Rica was this utopian place where anything goes. Now I realize that "bad behavior" is merely tolerated by locals. If you choose to engage in prostitution or any illicit activities, they will do absolutley nothing to help you. They won't even file a police report.

Don't believe the hype you read on this website. Prostitution is mostly legal, but highly scorned by locals. If you engage in prostitution, you will be treated like scum.

*****

During the evening, I would often go outside whenever I was feeling overwhelmed. I noticed that when the girls came in, they would simply check their bags and charge $1. After this whole situation, I noticed policy suddenly changed and they are once again collecting ID's at the door.

I was welcome to come back tomorrow to see if she comes back. If she's smart, she should take the weekend off. They asked what I wanted to do if I found her. I don't know. I'll be home in 4 days. Phuck her, throw her in jail, I guess.

Dumb druggie bitch. I would have just given you the money.

Sorry for your misfortune, but that's one of the hazards of "playing the game." When you are at these type of venues, having eyes in the back of your head is a must. A dozen or so years ago, I went up stairs with a couple of girls from the old Beatle Bar to my room in the Los 4 Grandes motel. While I was busy with one of them, the other was searching my pants pockets. I caught her just in time. Showed both of them to the door, and it ruined my mood for the night.

There is so much fail here I had to quote your entire post.

First, the initial time the girl mentioned drugs you should have bailed.

Secondly, you don't mention where you stayed. Obvio there was no front gate security. A rental house?

Third, she was in the bathroom "doing rails"? Coke? And you didn't toss her out?

Fourth, and most critical - your money wasn't locked up while you had a stranger in your place (wherever it was)? No safe?

To recap, you had an admitted drug user* in your place, doing drugs*, with your cash unsecured and you expected a different outcome?

Then you paint every working girl with the same brush. And expect the Cocal to take responsibility for your actions offsite?

*Other than weed. Apparently every girl, working or not, in CR smokes weed.

Actually, prostitution is completely legal** but if you think "everything goes" in Costa Rica (especially for a gringo) you were dead wrong before you got robbed. Costa Rica has laws - lots and lots of laws that their corrupt politicians, police, and courts gleefully apply to gringos (for reference, see Cuba Dave).

But in your case, any victim of petty theft would be in the same position, Tico, gringo, whoever. Even in the US the victim of petty theft by a drug using prostitute they invited into their life isn't going to get sympathy from anyone. And in CR, an aggrieved foreign tourist with that complaint is barely going to get a yawn.

**In my observation, Ticos have a 'live and let live' attitude towards girls engaged in prostitution (especially in the current fiscal crisis) but but a barely tolerant attitude towards obnoxious tourists (of any type).

First time in CR. Had a blast so far. Everything had been going so smoothly that I definitely let my guard down.

Met a group of guys at the Hotel Cocal. Great time. They had a luxury condo via Airbnb and were down to party. We brought a group of girls back with us.

I took one of the girls upstairs. I thought she was just perky and energetic. But after her third trip to the bathroom, I realized something may be up.

She kept offering drugs. I assumed that either she was trying to sell or get me to buy for her. But she made it seem like she just wanted me to have a good time.

She went into the bathroom one more time. Came out and said she was going to get the weed. Never came back.

Checked my wallet. Of course empty.

Went back to Hotel Cocal to see what my options were. They said I could file a police report to make an official statement. Then go talk to the Hotel manager. If I see her, they will ban her from the hotel. They would detain her and I could then basically extort her to give me my money back with the threat of jail time. I hear in Costa Rica, even the smallest theft could result in 45 days in jail.

I've seen it happen. It's very unsettling to watch. A drunk man scolding a young woman in public while security and police watch. You wonder how the police could let this happen to this poor girl. I get it now.

*****

I'll take this as a life lesson. She did not rob me out of malice. It is just in her nature. I was told that I should consider myself lucky. I still have my passport, camera, and phone. I guess she liked me.

Drunks can hang out with other drunks and maybe even potheads. Don't spend time with cokeheads unless you plan on partaking yourself. Otherwise, you will be in a situation where someone way more alert than you is in your room as you are struggling to stay awake.

what MM3 said...and always secure your stuff before having guests roam free, especially if not at your place, ie keep your wallet on you or your pants in a secure location if they are off...people make fun of cargo shorts, but buttons and zippers will save your ass and deter chicas from rifling through them freely

Pregame check, the moment i get to the hotel I lock up all but some spending cash in the safe and when returning to the room with or without a guest, lock the wallet up also

It all depends on the Hotel owners and managers. Back when Guy Grand was still alive he coordinated with Bill at the SL to find the puta that stole my wingman's camera and give it back to him.

I have now and have had several favoritas over the years, many I've known for years, many I feel safe with and really trust. When they come over, my passport, extra money, anything small of value, etc., except their upcoming pay is always safely locked away.

When I vacationed here I would brag to my friends that I hoe-proof my hotel room, laptop, heavy stealable items locked in the suitcase, small valuables always in the safe.

Yep, one got all my expensive condoms out of the bathroom one encounter...

No one is safe....

P.S. MM3 has given excellent advice, re-read it and ponder it.... :!:

don't fool yourself into thinking the girls are the only ones stealing stuff
your fellow mongers will also steal your stuff
had some asshat go into the locker back by the SL massage and steal my sunglasses
i knew it was one of a group of 4 guys that had come back to look around
i approached one of them and said i was going to call in the police
he immediately said hold on a minute and returned w my glasses
said his buddy was just "joking around" yeah Phuck you
i can't believe how many people still leave a phone out sitting at a bar let alone in another country
simple rule is trust no one
leaving your wallet out is daft to say the least
you had that one coming

how did you get separated from your wallet to the point where she could find it and clean it out?

even without a safe there are usually safe places you can find to stash cash except for what you need for a night.

He must of taken off his pants and then went into the banos alone and that is when she took the money. I'm not critizing I save up money for CR trips and had several thousand dollars in a envelope inside a suit pocket inside my closet. Cleaning lady found it and it was a week before I even realized it. So I know it hurts to get money stolen that you worked hard to save.

You think these ladies are the cutest little thing, but she is wearing a borrowed, or her only nice dress, and lives in conditions you can only imagine. It's a matter of survival , and dont forget how she chose to bring home the money.
CR says it's a catholic country, but.... Good catholic girls dont go the HDR or cocal, unless they are desperately broke.
I had a girl for a while who could smell where the money was hidden, no matter where I'd hide it.

A buddy came down on a mini vacation and the girl took his money clip out of his pants and ran off. He was still wearing the pants.
MPs are generally safer;
In my experience it doesnt matter if you've know her 1 hour or one year, if they are desperate, they will steal.

Funny thing is that if they were honest and asked for help, they'd get more than the 100 or so bucks she's stolen

I'll just say one thing: I'm sorry you went through that experience.

I used to keep a sugar baby when I lived in Florida, a super hot Puerto Rican wild Ch*ld, in and out of jail, she caused me all kinds of headaches, and she lies, steals and cheats, anyone who knew her would tell you that, but omg the intense gfe between us was intense...I'd put up with a broken jaw from her, lol.

I put up with whatever nonsense she could throw, I was crazy about her and you know, Florida doesn't give you as many options as Costa Rica or Colombia...

Nonetheless I ALWAYS kept my valuables locked up when she came over.

One day I noticed two of my gold chains were missing from the hiding place I had them in, in my closet. it bewildered me :? that she had gotten out of my eyesight fast enough and had the time to search my closet and find them.

I chewed her out royally and declared I was done with her, she vehemently denied she did it, but thieves are liars, too...

Two weeks later they caught my cleaning lady trying to sell them where I bought them, I had alerted them that they were stolen.

I crawled back to her on my belly  (and was relieved, hated losing that great fkkk :D )

She demanded a lot of cuntalingus as my penalty and I readily accepted my penance...

So once in awhile, there's one you can trust and oddly it just might be the one with the worst reputation...
