YO Admin:
Could you clean up or delete some of this old crap .....or place it somewhere else. It's potholes in the way. Tired of looking at it.

This idea popped up for me when I saw time-dated threads like old airfare specials. If there's no other information of value underneath, I think Admins could disappear them without objection.

Maybe most of the "I'll be in SJO on August 5 (2004)" threads could go away, too, although again, maybe someone added commentary below. I doubt that most of us would go back to re-read what is basically a Chat thread.

But in those threads, it might help the Admins in a thread that is outdated or expired chatter if we would delete our posts -- I haven't deleted anything yet, so I'm not sure how it works -- and save them from having to send a PM for permission to do so?

It's the confusion of having a board that is an archive of valuable information, saturated with the debris of a chatroom...

I agree many things can go away, and I can activate auto pruning for certain sections such as roll call.... no problem..

ON the flip side last time I did this there were many who complained all threads should not disappear. I can not please everyone, but yes certain topics can be auto pruned.

Well, about 3000 posts were removed, old roll calls was the intention, but somehow it took some very old but valuable info.

Did you mean they complained about any thread at all being deleted? That's ridiculous.

Or did you mean they were against all posts within the thread being deleted? (In other words, not saving the one valuable comment within an otherwise deletable chatter thread.) Most of us just post, and move on.

If we had a Wikipedia-type archive, we could sure ditch a lot of scattered threads, each containing someone's primo observations/ experiences/ advice. Much easier to find, too -- but lots of work for hardworking Admins, I know :?

At the most basic level, it's your property, to manage for the best interest of all, and pruning it and organizing it better makes it a better resource for all, as you already do so well.

Maybe a "Golden Posts" section? Where you set up a few simple categories, and you select the informational and timeless posts to occupy them? No one else adds further verbiage beneath.

(I already have had to abandon several favorite web forums and blogs because accumulated chatter takes up too much of my time. It's the clutter ratio -- sorry, fellow genius writers! -- that kills it off, slowly. CRT is a very specific topic area, that impacts several areas of my life. But for it to remain useful, the good parts have to stay easily accessible. I've got a big lawn to mow, and a house to paint, and here I am on a sunny morning, obsessing about Ticas with y'all!)

I'm not happy at all.
-old roll calls etc, nothing of any significance :?: Oh really?

Looks like about half of the best posts ever from my Archives thread are GONE! https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=6820
What a waste of some of the best of the best.

Circus posted this in the NEWBIE section, I assumed he was talking about the stickies and stuff in this section.

THE Only thing we eliminatd was roll call posts... NOTHING ELSE nothing else was purged that I know of..... Thats what I get for trying to be appeasing to everyone...

SOMEHOW which I do not understand some older posts not contained in the roll call section....were removed inadvertently

I give up trying to please the masses... THERE WILL BE NO MORE PURGING, You don't like it don't read it.. Now I'm pissed off.

Damn! Paco's right -- can you bring back from backups?

Just going through the first 3 categories (Psychology, Jealousy, the Hunt) since my browser tends to hang once I've put in a lot of work on something, here's what's missing.

(I was going to just click on your topics to check on them existing, but now I've got 23 windows open to read on my computer -- how to blow a Saturday, eh? -- Just call it Summer School for this 2005 newbie -- I can see a lot I need to re-read now -- Thanks, Professor Paco!)

Hey Admin -- don't sweat it. When the technology (software) lets you down, it's beyond worrying about. You just get up from the computer, walk outside, and forget about it.

The cool thing here, is that we have all these ideas revisited and re-contributed many, many times, from all different points of view, in different situations.

It's like walking through a minefield of knowledge -- you're bound to step on something that will elevate your thinking a bit. Not like we're going to spend hours and hours searching for something specific, either -- it's pretty random, so it's good there's a lot of repetition here, and people bringing back the old threads for us to re-read, too.

You do good work.

No problem.

I apoligise for getting upset before, but the point is I went to a dedicated server so this board did not ever have to be purged. Sure there are old items on here all over the place and the only thing I attempted to remove were old roll calls that had long since passed.

TECHNOLOGY DID Let me down as I took every precaution before doing it and I do not know how it took some posts out other than the roll calls.

the backup I have is from Thursday AM... If I use the backup I lose 48 hours of current posts....

DIEGO is right many of the old topics are revisited many times over and I do aplogise if anything was lost...

In the future, I will refrain from answering every single request as sometimes the good of the one is not the good of everyone.....

Again I am sorry if anything of substance was lost Paco.. sorry Bro....

Oh well, no biggie.
But dammit Admin1, if anyone knows better than to pay attention to Circus it should be you. There's no telling how many mini-vodkas he had before he posted- I can see him now with his cat licking his feet trying to find his favorite porn site but actually groping through the Newbie section like a blind lesbian in a fish market. Then posting something about crap and potholes and being tired.

(just kiddin Circus) :P

Paco -- this led to some great reading, into the night and today before I had to reboot to clean out my browser. Your links brought me back to January, when I read and read and read here after my first trip. You really created the Encyclopedia.

So many of our veterans went through similar things a year before me; it's really helped me put the wrap on the withdrawal phase from the last trip.

I've gotta run, quick, but I tried googling on "PacoLoco" and "Tica" combined with some of the thread names missing, just to see if anything comes up in their cache of CRT. Yes, some pages are out there, but it doesn't look very complete so far.

Admin? you'd probably know if anything like that has a chance of holding our missing threads? No, don't even think of messing with restoring a backup -- yikes!

Has anyone considered a searchable CD archive of the site for VIPs?
