many who complained all threads should not disappear
Did you mean they complained about
any thread at all being deleted? That's ridiculous.
Or did you mean they were against all
posts within the thread being deleted? (In other words, not saving the one valuable comment within an otherwise deletable chatter thread.) Most of us just post, and move on.
If we had a Wikipedia-type archive, we could sure ditch a lot of scattered threads, each containing someone's primo observations/ experiences/ advice. Much easier to find, too -- but lots of work for hardworking Admins, I know
At the most basic level, it's
your property, to manage for the best interest of all, and pruning it and organizing it better makes it a better resource for all, as you already do so well.
Maybe a "Golden Posts" section? Where you set up a few simple categories, and
you select the informational and timeless posts to occupy them? No one else adds further verbiage beneath.
(I already have had to abandon several favorite web forums and blogs because accumulated chatter takes up too much of my time. It's the clutter ratio -- sorry, fellow genius writers! -- that kills it off, slowly. CRT is a very specific topic area, that impacts several areas of my life. But for it to remain useful, the good parts have to stay easily accessible. I've got a big lawn to mow, and a house to paint, and here I am on a sunny morning, obsessing about Ticas with y'all!)
