Brandda,
As a veteran monger, but a new CRT VIP Member, I felt compelled to put in my 2 cents.
I am in a very similar situation to you. I've been married for 17 years, 2 k*ds, successful business, house paid for, etc. etc. etc.
I made my 1st trip to CR in June, 2004. It was just supposed to be a normal fishing trip with 5 friends. I was blown away with what I experienced. To make a long story short, since then, I have made 8 more trips to CR in the past 12 months. Dapanz hit the nail on the head when he said " CR is like eating potato chips. Ya can't eat just one". In a single year, I have made 9 trips to CR, started a new Sociedad Anonima (offshore corporation), bought 2 condo's by the beach (which are always rented), opened an account at one of the local CR banks (I'm contemplating buying a 3rd condo), made many friends with some of the local tico/tica's, taken spanish courses at the local community college, and I've got 3 more trips to CR planned for this year (August, October, December)..................... And I've got a GOOD marriage. I can't imagine how hard it must be if you've got a bad marriage.
I've been able to use the condo construction as the major reason for my trips to CR. But sometimes, I tell mi esposa that I have to meet with my attorney (abogado) for business, or I'll tell her that I've got to meet with the property manager, or I've got to bring some checks down there to deposit in the CR account, etc. Whatever I gotta do to get down there!
But, as many of the members have already stated......CR is like a drug. With the situation that you're in, I'm not sure if a trip to CR would help you, or screw you up for the rest of your life. And this is coming from a guy that has never spent any time in SJO. All 9 of my trips were spent in the North / West area of Guanacaste. The clubs and hotels in that area are not as popular as the BM or DR or KL or ZB or SL or any one of the numerous places in SJO, but there's always plenty of tica's, nica's, colombiana's or panamanian's to take care of your every need.
Because of CRT, along with everything that I've been reading on this forum for the past month, I'm actually going to make a layover in SJO on my next trip in August. Besides that, I've got to see if my new CRT VIP Card carries any weight!
Well, I've babbled long enough. I hope I haven't put anyone to sleep.
Basically, Brandda, though I have not experienced it (yet), I know many many people who have gone through divorce. And I've never seen one that went nice. Divorce is hard on everyone involved, especially k*ds.
But I still believe that a good divorce is better than a bad marriage. Buena Suerte, Mi Amigo. You're going to need it. And in closing, I've got to say it one more time.........CR IS LIKE A DRUG! Always remember, watch what you ask for. Ya just might get it!
Mikey B.
