Agree with the above, I think most of us respect their laws, it is just the vagueness of how it is written that has so many wondering where that line is as nobody wants to cross it. That's the point, all of us don't want to go to prison by violating CR law

Somebody sent me a private message and gave me permission to share some other laws that may or may not be known to some of you. Knowledge is better than ignorance:
Slander; There is a law that you can not make allegations against someone.
Verbal Abuse; You should not raise your voice at anyone and especially a woman.
Violence; If a girl lives with you and calls the police and says you have been violent in any way, even verbally, with her. You may be kicked out of your own home until a court date.
Pregnancy; If a girl gets pregnant and says its yours, you may be prevented from leaving the country until dna results are done.
Very good DonJuan, but we need to remember the CR Slander law has no bearing upon the truthfullness of the allegation. For example, if your maid steals from you and you tell the neighbors that is why you fired her, then she can seek redress in the courts where the punishment can be 30 days in jail.
Likewise, verbal abuse of a female and the risks of her accusing you of threatening violence exists whether you live in Costa Rica or just have a Tica visiting you in your hotel. This is one of the reasons that I stay only at Sportsmens where I can just pick up the phone and ask the guards to get her out of my room before any conflict escalates.

It's also why I like to buy Jorge, the Barrio Amon Police Chief a beer whenever I see him at the Sportsmens bar. You just never know when you might need a reference or get out of jail free help.
This is not typically a problem since most of the guys coming to CR are polite and know how to behave themselves. However, with the younger, loudmouth, aggressive guys who are coming more and more today, I will not be at all surprised to hear more stories of police arresting guys in their hotel rooms because of conflicts with the Ticas.

I just wonder if the CR Police would be as aggressive if the chica is a Nica or Colombiana.
