I finally broke down and booked a flight to San Jose. I'm thinking of splitting my time between there and jaco but not sure. I saw some reports saying San Jose had more action but less stuff to do outside of mongering. I was hoping to get some advice some folks on here on what route I should take. I'm also thinking of just staying at the del Rey since I'm not sure about how hard it is to get around. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I will be taking my 4 th trip to Costa Rica in October. There maybe things to do in and around San Jose during the day I just have never explored that option!! While the mongering is probably more plentiful in San Jose with the clubs, the hotels, bars and massage parlors I prefer Jaco! I enjoy Jaco because while I am on vacation I enjoy the laid back small beach town feel it offers! I enjoy the ziplining, waterfall tours crocodile tours and the Atv!! These same things maybe offerer end around San Jose I am just not sure! But they are all close to Jaco! If you do go go Jaco than I would suggest a side trip to Manuel Antomio National Park. The beaches are much nicer than Jaco and if you enjoy looking at wildlife it is the place to go! We all have different presences and different personalities! Jaco just happens to fit mine with the slower pace and the laid back feel! I enjoy the side trips that are available during the day and the activities at the Coal at night!

Good post VD
To the op, with 10 days you certainly have time to do something besides sit in the gulch
All sorts of options and currently I think Jaco is a clear favorite for mongering
Love MA as well and I think its worth the time to check it out but no real scene
Its all about what you want to do and its kind of hard to make a mistake tbh
On a first trip its perfectly ok to just go with the flow and make plans to return
Enjoy your trip and I think I am going to be around the same time so maybe we bump elbows
Cheers

Jaco is definitely worth visiting for a few days out of your trip. If you are going to go all the way to Costa Rica, its great to get out to the coast. Jaco has some good restaurants/sodas and of course there is the scene at the Cocal.
It's all about location there. Nice poolside bar etc. Like most the beaches in Costa Rica, Jaco beach is for surfing and the sand is coarse, so if you do go there, its more about experiencing the town and the activities around it. It does get really hot there, so be ready for that. Manuel Antonio is fantastic and has a couple of great swimming beaches inside the National Park (not the main playa). Feel free to PM me with any questions you have.

If you are going to be in SJ alone, you might be better off starting out at La Amistad, SL or Zona 2, so you can meet other CRT members in a friendly atmosphere and get some advice in person.

Thanks for the info guys. Think I'm going to stay at the HDR for my first few days to say I done it. Then I'm going to head to jaco and do some tourist stuff in the day and play at night. I've read the atv tour and the crocodile tour are worth the trip. I'm still trying to plan out all my activities. The more I read it seems the more I want to do. I'm going to spend the majority of time in jaco as of right now because from what I've read that's where the best quality is at. Hopefully by the time my trip gets here I will have read enough to have a good game plan going and hopefully I'll get to run into some folks off here
