A little late to the thread, but a heads up on staff theft at the Cocal as well..
My buddy and I stayed at the Vista Mar thru Jaco VIP a few months back. When we got there we left the bags with the security guys while we checked in. My friend had about half of his cash in a pocket on his duffle bag. When we got to the room, about half of that $ was gone. A couple hundred bucks. We went to the security desk and even watched the security tape. There was no way of seeing what the bell guy was doing once he got on the elevator with our stuff - but he was the only one with access to our bags. Lesson learned - don't ever let your stuff out of your sight - and of course, don't leave cash or anything of real value in your bags. I have now been to CR three times and have picked up a lot of great tips on this board. One of the best, though, is don't bring anything of significant value with you, period.
Agree with this. I have felt safer carrying small amounts of cash. If i need money in C.R., i make credit card or ATM withdrawals as the need arises. There may be ATM fees, but i'd rather pay them than risk losing a wad of money at once.
As for Luna, they don't come like her. She is far and away the best provider i have met in C.R.
