Not likely. They appear to be doing well. They wanted a new niche and found it.

Close, the name is "El Balcon de Europe". It is one of the longest standing restaurants in San Jose having opened in 1909. I think Chelles pre dates its however.

According to one of the long time Taxi driver, the Presidente never has many customers. Making some wonder if the casino is making the $$, or what "F "is going on. Having been by there since they changed their "target clients." I have to agreed

Totally disagree about the Presidente not doing well. First of all they have all the store fronts rented out making very good money. They got rid of a restaurant with all the costs and problems of food service and now have very good rent coming in from the phone store. I get in and out of the Presidente a bit and it is vibrant. I put a group of 35 in there for three days this week. Everyone is happy and the service is very good. The Presidente is not going away and has very positive cash flow. It changed its business model to their benefit.

I remember the old TSM discount of $45 a night with no chica fee and a very nice breakfast sitting outside looking at all the chicas walking by on their way to work. My last stay at PRESIDENTE, The doorman made me buy my chica a pair of jeans to allow entry because her blue jean dress was just above her knees.

I brought a puta there one night, my one time unfortunate stay there, I was going upstairs to get a pair of my sweat pants she could wear since she had a short skirt, the little runt at the door told me she had to wear her own clothes, I said who cares as long as she met their requirements.

He got the night manager involved and both stood their ground, it was too late, all the stores were closed. Both these little barking chihuahuas weighed about 130 lbs each and were maybe 5'4''. I am 6'0", 220 lbs, normally a mild mannered puddy tat, but I was drunk (once a year if that) and wanted this gorgeous little hottie and they promised me no nonsense like this when I made the reservation...

The situation evolved into an angry shouting match and I'm one of those reserved mild mannered types that when I finally do blow, I blow big...I terrified these little guys but they held their ground, gotta give them credit for guts, I was in their faces and you could hear the expletives flying from my mouth in Escazu...

Finally gave up and took her to that stink hole around the corner for $10 an hour or whatever it is.

I've written terrible reviews on them on every travel site I could find. I once said I'd sleep in Morazon Park on a concrete bench face down before I stay there again...

Face down on a bench in Morazon Park you could probably make some money, the hard way. :D

There are members who stayed at the Presidente many times over the years and have fond memories. When the hotel made the decision to let other hotels cater to mongers while they would concentrate on other markets those CRT folks were understandably upset. Granted the hotel mismanaged the change over with their ever changing dress code policy but they certainly had the same rights as any other business to decide what market they wanted to target and to make the changes necessary to appeal to that market.

Like it or not the Presidente is very successful catering to their market. You do not have to check with taxi drivers just spend an hour or so in the evening when tourists have returned from their day trips and sit in the lobby and observe the amount of guests and the obvious comfort level they exhibit as they come and go. Check the reviews on Trip Advisor and they are over overwhelmingly positive including good things to say about the free breakfast they have in the lobby now that they shut down the News Café.

The upside of the Presidente policy for CRT members is that there are a number of hotels that now welcome mongers where you will find others of the same persuasion to hang out with and share war stories over a beverage of choice.

The Presidente is dead, long live the Presidente.

Very well written and very well put, ID

(I hated the drama and the nonsense for the 2 years or so leading up to their change in guest policy and think - no, Phuck that, I know they mishandled the change over totally - you either permit girls in the room or you don't - a pair of jeans is really not gonna change the sluttiness of a whore - WTF....she is in the lobbly for a matter of secconds while being checked in, and when she leaves she is out the door - not hanging out in the lobby or the bar <when they had one> Sorry, sorry - the place just pisses me off but while you would not know it from my posts on the Prez, I have moved on  )

I stayed at the Prez on 2 different occasions and I really enjoyed it and the only issue was taking 2 girls to my room. Luckily a wing of mine was solo so he signed her into his room and I took them both. It is too bad they are no longer chica friendly as I liked the rooms and would not hesitate to stay there again but I would probably double up with a room at HLH anyway.
