The initial question can be answered now pertaining to Asian persuasion vs Ticos ...I migrate outside the gulch and Asian are well respected,own much of the restaurants,part of the export/import goods industry for 50 years in Costa Rica and are Parrt of The Latin culture (see who owns restaurants,nail salons,and goods store in South,Central,and Caribbean regions).
Their familys -Asians generally speak 2 or more languages including fluent spanish.

I'd like to weigh in if I may. I'm a black American and while I haven't been to all the countries I'd like, I'm very concerned about how I'm treated based on my race. The OP is basically asking if he's going to get the raw treatment because of his race. Will the girls he likes like him or reject him on account of him being Asian? Being a "minority" sucks sometimes because you never really know if people are treating you a certain way based upon your skin color or if they're just having a bad day. This makes black men like me on constant guard oversees. In America, if a white guy hates black people he usually has several reasons as to why that is. Of course, his reasoning is based on ignorance and stupidity. Nevertheless, at the very least he can put his hatred and ignorance into some historical or anecdotal context.

In places like Costa Rica and other places throughout the world, I feel that the natives get a very limited view of black Americans. They see the rap videos, the anti-social behavior and all the ugly stereotypes and base their assumptions on that. They don't see blacks as being productive, hard-working, educated, and financially stable. They only get the one view. Heck, I've met white American mongers and even they're surprised! I'm sitting at the bar and having a conversation with a guy and then I get the "look." The look is the sudden awareness that this guy from Charlotte, NC who thinks the worst of black people and black men in particular is having a conversation with a black guy over an Imperial. We're sitting there laughing and talking about where the S&P 500 is headed after the Eurozone fails. It's hilarious as hell.
Back to my point. I'm always aware of my environment when I travel but I'm always on alert because of my race. I didn't have a problem in SJO that I'm aware of. I got some stares and one security guy at the DR asking me if I was an Americano. I said, "si" and he left me alone. That was it. I don't know why he asked me that. Perhaps I looked like a Tico from Limon? Who knows?

I asked a couple of darker skinned chicas that I spent some time with about this and they said that they experience prejudice fairly often. The other fairer skinned chicas get together and talk racist shit to their faces. Sadly, I was not surprised. I've been informed that having dark skin in Costa Rica is the hallmark of lower class standing. Let's also no forget the there are many woman throughout the world that don't want to be bothered with black men because we're perceived as violent, pimps, and "don't treat the ladies right." It's bullshit. Matter of fact, one member of this board once posted that he wanted to sex up this chica but decided against it because she just got finished phucking a black monger! Now I ask you, my fellow enlightened gentlemen, how f'ed up is that? Some of the dudes reading this right now perpetuate this bullshit and would do the same thing.
