I hope you ask the same about people who have problems with SL, because according to many members of this board, they don't make mistakes, even though I've experienced THAT firsthand.

Guess your first hand experience with SL is not representative of my experience with SL; so that only means YMMV, not that mistakes don't happen. Slam didn't just showed up like you stated on your first email, he had what he thought was a reservation as noticed on his email and it was not honored. I'm pretty sure there's a logical explanation; agreed that Amistad or any other hotel that wants to stay in bussiness doesn't operate that way, but Slam didn't get it at the time, and no one has bothered to try to explain it. I honestly don't think that Slam in on a vendetta against Amistad; he was just making other people aware, just like you did, or should have done with your SL experience. I totally agree that there are two or three sides to any story, but until the other two sides are posted, this is the only one we have.

Slam

I checked into your reservation in Feb 2012 (almost 6 months ago) and you are correct Rudy made an error in your reservation and we did have no rooms as we were full. I am not sure exactly why or how at this time as he is off the next two days but i can assure you

1. It was not intentional
2. You were not bumped for a regular

As much as Hotel Amistad appreciates CRT business, there are some members who take things to far and make accusations that are to the point of insulting.

So to make this simple

Rudy made a mistake - he is human - it was not intentional - he tried to find a solution for you - Normally we would comp the room or pay for the new hotel - it happens at all hotels at some point.

Hotel Amistad has supported CRT members for many years and have ALWAYS when in error made sure that the member was made whole when brought to our attention.

We can only apologize at this point and my phone is always available for discussion and to find solutions that everyone can walk away from happy.

Justed wanted to go on record stating that I have known Rudy since the day I first arrived here in Nov. '07.

Sure, he may have made a mistake but the man has always taken great care of me. That includes things like signing me up for group dance lessons 8) , giving me very special deals on rooms and especially their Penthouse, having the maids prep the room to my specs, securely storing my personal party items, awesome cash discounts, is very friendly and discrete :wink: etc etc

One of the classiest guys I have met here.

^ and when i am kicked out of my apartment on occasion he still treats me like i am just coming back from a ten day stay. always says yes to just about any request. no hesitation if he can't do it he helps find you someone who can.

Both Rudi and Carlos are great guys and do a bang up job, not just with reservations but also with all the other tasks they're charged with. Each have a superior command of English and each go out of their way to make a guy feel like he's at a "....home away from home....".

Slipping a "benjamin" don't work at Amistad to bump somebody and Mkink is correct to note such an assertion is insulting. That hotel don't work that way.

As well, the hotel and its owner don't "owe" no "message board" a darn thing. The hotel provides a righteous discount to begin with and if a guy stays longer than just a couple of nights and pays in cash money, the discount is even more righteous. And don't think that because it's cash it doesn't go "...on the books...". The owner is a professional accountant and is NOT going to risk his hotel business over some cash payments. The discount is associated with not having to pay Visa and Mastercard fees.

There are choices each guy has to make in SJO with respect to housing. Each "facility" has it's own flavor. And, moreover, each facility has it's own unique set of internal workings which include problems, errors, mistakes, call 'em what you want. It's my assertion Amistad is so well run (Marlena has a LOT to do with making certain stuff gets done....just as Rudi and Carlos do....not to mention Luis who makes sure things of an "infrastructure nature" are all up to snuff......; and can't leave out the people cooking and cleaning, either....nor the bar staff....) that when compared to the "other CRT hotels" it probably has the fewest SNAFU's of them all....and they all have 'em.....SNAFU's that is...; In 5 years on this message board, this situation is the very first I can recall where Amistad had a glitch. Big deal. Yeah, it sucked to be Slam95136 that day no question....but almost six months to pitch a bitch about it? Had it been me, I would have been back at the hotel the very next day after I had secured lodging and obtained my "pound of flesh". *shrug* 8)

Agreed, & Matt posted the explanation. I didn't mean to imply the guy had a vendetta, only that we didn't know the whole story. Now we do.

and i didn't mean to imply that rudy or anyone else there is on the take. just being realistic about the fact that money talks. you honestly don't think that happens everyday all over the world?
while i doubt it happened like that, to say its impossible at amistad is absurd.
matt can't be there every moment anymore than any owner of a business can.

I want to apologize to the person that booked a room with us for superbowl
weekend and got bumped, well we are very sorry for the inconvenience, we
got confused with a double booking which ended up as not true and it was
too late to mend the error, we had never had a problem with any guests or
reservations we just got confused with this reservation and our intentions
is never to bump a client, we are willing to give you a free upgrade if
you want to try us again and see that we do not like to treat our
customers in a disrespectful way, anyway I do apologize for this
inconvenience.
If I can do something for you just let me know, I´ll be happy to do so.

Steven...I was only letting everyone know about my experience..and yes its not always the mistake you make but how you fix it. I believe Matt and Rudy at LA are sincere and have done the best they can do for the situation. I only posted to let everyone know what i experienced dawg. I am on the ground in San Jose, The Havana Humidor Room (HLH). Every week I speak and chat with dozens of guest at Amistad, SL, Dunn and HLH. My customers are basically sophisticated, educated, discerning and with funds. I ask everyone where they stay, etc.
the SL, Dunn, Amistad, HLH all get very good reviews. Complaints can be of noise or location, etc. but customer service rates high. They ply their trade professionally and know the hospitality business well. Their businesses rely heavily on exceeding customers expectations. All bushiness and employees are not 100% perfect, that is not realistic. But I must say, HLH, SL, Dunn and Amistad are in business for you guys and only deserve your support. When a problem occurs, contact the management. That is their job and what they are their for. To damage any of these establishments is not in the best interest of any responsible CRT VIP.
