Jazz, please re read my post and see if you think I was attacking the original poster.
We expect taxis to use accurate meters, take the shortest or fasted route, upon our instruction, not rob us, be there on time when we have a run to the airport etc but there is a flip side to this coin. We should be considerate toward them as well.
I did consider that the poster knows the scene and that furthers my point.
I will explain further in the hope to clear up any misunderstandings. If a taxi is sitting in traffic or on a road already headed toward traffic and you flag them, then you can get out any time you want and feel good about paying the meter. But if you instruct the taxi to drive into traffic and they are stuck there, by your instructions, then why shouldn't you pay them to the next exit point or at least split the difference. Again, One dollar, (500 colon) usually solves this. This can be the new game, "Lets strand the taxi".
1. And it is not a matter of the 'law'. Motorcycles and Mopeds do drive between lanes and on each side of the lane here. I have driven a large vehicle 20,000 miles in 6 years being extremely careful not to run them over. Not because it's the law that I don't run them over, but they are there and I can't change it so why shouldn't I take every effort not to run them over or swing open a door. I am a visitor in their country. "When in Rome". Isn't this just common sense? It is for people that live here and the girl he was with seemed to know that.
2. It is not correct to suddenly exit a taxi in traffic. You instruct him that you want out and allow him to pull to the the left or right or pull completely off the road.
If the OP had done this, then the taxi would have looked in his mirror for oncoming two wheeled vehicles, as we all do here, and this thread would not have been started.
You thought I was attacking the poster. I was simply explaining to the rest of the members how to avoid this and explaining local customs.
Him being a local biz man means nothing to me if he's an ass.
But the post in this thread remind me why I constantly overhear horror stories, whining, and sad tales of woe and poverty, while every thing I touch does very well.
