I don't disagree with the subject here, but give me a break! If someone were paying me $100 an hour to Phuck, they are free to call me what ever the hell they want! Just keep the money coming! :D

I feel we have tico's on the board that get mad at gringo' that say Tica in place of whore. (if you call a whore a tica are you treating her like a lady???) think about it?

Its not just tico's - I'm an American of Irish/Italian decent :)

It annoys me (and some others on this board - right MH? :) ) because its offensive, can get you into trouble (was a post just recently about an American who was in a fight, in a tico bar no less  all over using the word synonimously with whore - ticos are by nature a fairly passive group; maybe he got the 'wrong' one - or maybe it just really pisses them off), and its "preventable stupidity"

I live in Miami, the crossroads of the Latin world (Latins love Miami the way Asians love San Francisco) - and I'd be super pissed if I heard someone from Colombia, Venezuela, wherever, using the English word "female" or "woman" as another term for prostitute.

Plus, use of the term tells me you are a rookie of the 1st order, maybe trying to fit in by using a word you heard, or read - but the opposite is the case - just makes you look new, inexperienced, and clueless.

And yes, I will acknowledge it probably annoys me more than it perhaps should, but at 56 I'm entitled to be annoyed at what I choose to be :!:

true with all you say guys.. Tica is not whore!! or puta!.. I just think it is hard for new to the board or men that never been to costa rica to understand this. I think some comes from the site that is (COSTA RICA TICA) and most of the talk and pictures are of working girls in costa rica. not the real tica girls. don't get me wrong the site is great, but I not sweat the small things, just try to help others understand the differance of the two so they can enjoy there time there.

Darn tootin'!

mh

P.S. Like Scuba1 I'm not a tico, either. So much for your theory. However, more than annoying me it worries me when I hear mongers using it inappropriately, given I feel tremendous good will towards all (well, most :) ) of my CRT brothers.

I think those who point it out are simply trying to help new brothers so they don't get into a bad situation out of ignorance. Like when we suggest taking taxis at night, always be aware of your surroundings, avoid the "chicas" in Parque Morazan, etc.

Now, if you want to continue being an asshat by continuing to use tica as a synonym for whore or walking drunk through the Gulch with money hanging from your pockets or engaging those charmin' young Morazan "ladies" in conversation, be our guest. We'll look out for you (or your heirs) at the next Darwin Awards ceremony.

I see in the trip reports and girls review sections more and more guys using "Tica" and "Chica" interchangeably.
"Tica" does not mean prostitute. A Tica is a Costa Rican female.

Yeah, it's like using the word "American" to describe a gringa whore.

Plucked from Brother MH's post is this reference to the Darwin Awards. Here's more:

It seems to me that guys who say "tica" really mean "chica", which a lot of guys use (chica) when referring to working girls, even thought it means "girl." I think that the mistake of using Tica in this manner is not meant out of disrespect, but out of little knowledge of the language. What I find amusing is that some of those who pitch the biggest fit are those who don't speak the language, and probably make even larger errors. But than again, some people have to correct every time someone writes ColUMbia, instead of ColOMbia. I mean, come on.....

My guess is that some of the same guys, when trying to communicate they are "embarrassed" tell CHICAS they are "embarazada" (pregnant) or pronounce it with a hard Z (it is actually an S).

Point is, yes, Tica does not mean whore, but please, stop preaching about simple linguistic errors ALL THE TIME if you don't speak the language well enough to use it respectfully yourself....

FYI, this post is NOT written with anyone in mind, just some thoughts after years of reading this type of post..

:P :P :P I know that is not on subject but I love it when I read "than" instead of "then" and "their" instead of "there"....
