So, the way I read, ANYONE coming to CR must show they have $1000? Is that correct? Seems a little extreme, considering all the teenagers that go there to play jungle-gym or whatever. I don't really mind, but it seems like a lot of tourists would be upset by that.

According to what was printed in AmCostarica this morning there are a number of ways to show the money.
Quote:
The money can be in cash, bank accounts, travelers checks or be invested in a pre-paid tourism trip, according to the rules.
Surprisingly it does not mention credit cards which is usual in countries with a resource requirement. I do not think it is particularly onerous to the majority of tourists and is a reasonable way for the country to prevent a tourist becoming a financial burden. Most countries that have a similar requirement rarely require anyone to show proof however it is a tool to allow them to help weed out those they consider undesirable.
