I've said it before, you have to hire male bartenders -- preferably over 30 years old -- if you want exceptional bar staff. Otherwise, you're stuck with mediocre service. 10 years in the bar industry -- that's just the way it is.

SR

I have to agree with you both, but I don't think it applies as much to the States as it does to Central America. I get really annoyed when all these idiots in the Del Rey start buying the bartenders shots, then suddenly, the service slows down as each bartender has to gather around the self-important "BIG GRINGO MONEYBAGS" as he thinks he is impressing the local hotties and that he might just score some free poontang, as opposed to the losers chasing the hookers in the bar. Its always funny to see him later be perplexed when he gets hit with any extra big bill and the bartenders don't seem quite so drunk, (As they have been drinking shots of water). That in turn inspires them to try other tricks, like forgetting about your change, or forgetting one of the bills etc, etc. :D :D

Other places have a largely unmanaged bar staff and they seem to operate in a haphazard manner; the girl might see you, or she might not, she might hear the bell which means your food is ready, or she might be too busy chatting to hear it. I actually had one of these beauties tell me not to bother the other girl behind the bar as she was off shift (but still behind the bar, attending to certain customers), I said, " since, you are my waitress, please bring me my breakfast." Her response, "Oh, I didn't know it was ready"

Riddle me this TBone... If you ran an ad in the local paper in SJO, and the job paid $2k ave/mo, but the only stipulation is that your cell stays in the car/home/anywhere other than here, how many blocks would the line be?

I get the girls drinking(makes the bar money), but the other costs them.... Ya, I know, Muy Tico

Just venturing a guess but--with Our Crowd, it's the challenge; with the HDR amateurs, it's the ignorance or possibly bragging rights. I don't get it either.

Wouldn't matter what the job paid!! No cell-phone would be a deal-breaker.

For $50 bucks you can get a cell phone blocker the size of a cell phone, works wonders. I have great fun in line at Starbucks and other places where the idiots won't put their phone away as you are standing line waiting for their loud mouth I'm important voices go dead as they all of a sudden lose their signal.

I brought a cell phone blocker with me on my last trip to CR. It works great at our office to make sure no calls come in during conferences but CR is years behind and must use analog technology or different frequencies, plus they can always just fake getting a call....LOL. They have been known to do that.

Hey Boyd, good luck with this. Sounds great. Stayed at the Dunn in July-August, and look forward to my next visit sometime in December. Will try and stay there again.

We are in the final stags of buildout and are waiting on Tvs, satellite dishes, bae equipment etc. I will post a definitive date when I know it.

That would be wonderful  Then I couldn't make or receive a call at the bar and the bartenders would have to leave the bar to make a call (which they would do). Be careful what you ask for. Muy Tico!
