hey cln20 I met a guy at the crt meeting and he played many hours of poker on his last trip and he was sharing some of his poker stories and he was telling me about a guy who was tearing it up....I knew it was you !!!! he said he was up but gave it back and I shared that I felt that there was house players in the games and a few guys grinding it out daily.....which is why I stay away when on vacation at the places you listed. Glad to hear you are doing well as I enjoy your updates ....I like guys who tell it the way it is ...win or lose. Thanks
Hey Chili…I wish I knew how that was, I played with quite a few CRT’ers while I was here. Are you certain he was talking about me? ïŠ Cuz you know…I am kind of a donkey…
Like Californication said, there are quite a few house players. Good thing about house players is, a lot of times they have to meet certain hourly requirements, or don’t want to bust out early. Once I learned who they were, I just pushed them around. I know they didn’t want to go all in and bust. Now they’re out their meal, their $20, and their buy in.
But there are also a lot of grinders, and a lot of good players. I hated sometimes going to the DR on say, Tuesday afternoon, and there weren’t many tourists there, just locals, and it was kinda like that scene in Rounders when all the sharks wind up playing together the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. But tourists were the bread and butter.
It’d be Thursday, and you’d see a guy come in, drink in hand, talking about the session he just had, and he cant believe how pretty the girls are down here, etc etc. Then he’d sit down, and most times within an hour his buy in would be gone. They’re just not focused on playing a good poker game. Besides, he’s on vacation, whats a couple hundred gone? I remember one guy, came in, said it was his birthday, so the poker room staff got him a piece of cake. The guy was broke before the cake even made its way over from the kitchen.
The biggest thing that irked me was poker in CR was the Mexican standoff that occurred every time there was a showdown. People would take forever to flip their hands up, and would stare the other person down hoping they would show first. Either they didn’t want to show an inferior hand, or were embarrassed about how they played the hand. I dunno. But I just remember it took forever.
I actually almost got into an altercation over that one time. After it went check, check on the river, one guy didn’t want to flip his hand up, nor did he muck it. He just held onto it for almost 30 seconds. I finally had to ask the dealer to make him flip his hand up. He then gets pissed off, and all sorts of drama happens. The DR eventually instituted a new rule which now says any players that are all-in, have to flip their hands up before any more cards are dealt. I love this rule.
Another thing that I hate is the practice of slowrolling, which seems to be very common in CR. One time while at the Horseshoe, a guy made a bet on the river, after the flush had gotten there. I had flopped a set, and figured I might be beat due to the bet seemed like he wanted me to call. But I was getting 6 to 1 on a call, and I still might have had the best hand. So I call, tell him “I have a set†and flip my hand over for him to see. He looks at my hand, grimaces, shakes his head, studies the board for another 10 seconds, and then says “I have a flush†and flips over the nuts.
I was livid. And that kinda crap is constant down there. But overall, CR is a easier game than say, Vegas. Lotta good oppurtunities to make money down there.
