hey cln20 I met a guy at the crt meeting and he played many hours of poker on his last trip and he was sharing some of his poker stories and he was telling me about a guy who was tearing it up....I knew it was you !!!! he said he was up but gave it back and I shared that I felt that there was house players in the games and a few guys grinding it out daily.....which is why I stay away when on vacation at the places you listed. Glad to hear you are doing well as I enjoy your updates ....I like guys who tell it the way it is ...win or lose. Thanks

Hey Chili…I wish I knew how that was, I played with quite a few CRT’ers while I was here. Are you certain he was talking about me?  Cuz you know…I am kind of a donkey…

Like Californication said, there are quite a few house players. Good thing about house players is, a lot of times they have to meet certain hourly requirements, or don’t want to bust out early. Once I learned who they were, I just pushed them around. I know they didn’t want to go all in and bust. Now they’re out their meal, their $20, and their buy in.
But there are also a lot of grinders, and a lot of good players. I hated sometimes going to the DR on say, Tuesday afternoon, and there weren’t many tourists there, just locals, and it was kinda like that scene in Rounders when all the sharks wind up playing together the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. But tourists were the bread and butter.

It’d be Thursday, and you’d see a guy come in, drink in hand, talking about the session he just had, and he cant believe how pretty the girls are down here, etc etc. Then he’d sit down, and most times within an hour his buy in would be gone. They’re just not focused on playing a good poker game. Besides, he’s on vacation, whats a couple hundred gone? I remember one guy, came in, said it was his birthday, so the poker room staff got him a piece of cake. The guy was broke before the cake even made its way over from the kitchen.

The biggest thing that irked me was poker in CR was the Mexican standoff that occurred every time there was a showdown. People would take forever to flip their hands up, and would stare the other person down hoping they would show first. Either they didn’t want to show an inferior hand, or were embarrassed about how they played the hand. I dunno. But I just remember it took forever.
I actually almost got into an altercation over that one time. After it went check, check on the river, one guy didn’t want to flip his hand up, nor did he muck it. He just held onto it for almost 30 seconds. I finally had to ask the dealer to make him flip his hand up. He then gets pissed off, and all sorts of drama happens. The DR eventually instituted a new rule which now says any players that are all-in, have to flip their hands up before any more cards are dealt. I love this rule.

Another thing that I hate is the practice of slowrolling, which seems to be very common in CR. One time while at the Horseshoe, a guy made a bet on the river, after the flush had gotten there. I had flopped a set, and figured I might be beat due to the bet seemed like he wanted me to call. But I was getting 6 to 1 on a call, and I still might have had the best hand. So I call, tell him “I have a set” and flip my hand over for him to see. He looks at my hand, grimaces, shakes his head, studies the board for another 10 seconds, and then says “I have a flush” and flips over the nuts.
I was livid. And that kinda crap is constant down there. But overall, CR is a easier game than say, Vegas. Lotta good oppurtunities to make money down there.

Why do those 2 things make you so upset? Are you really pissed over the extra 10 seconds that are wasted? I just laugh it off and consider it a cultural thing. If the guy wants to study his winning hand some more, let him. I will just do the EXACT same thing when I beat him.   (Besides, what is slowrolling, is it really that bad. Nothing changes, you still lose. CLN20, this is not directed at you. I think some people get all upset by it because they think they have to based on what they hear on TV.)

Totally agree. That guy is just waiting to get back to some MP, indy, or it's 3am and he wants to go sleep after phucking all day.

Well Orange, thats just it. You dont NEED to study a winning hand. You know you have the best of it. Flip it up, scoop your pot, and lets move on to the next hand. I've been in cardrooms where pulling that type of a move can get your ass kicked. I've seen player literally come across the table and grab a dude by the throat for that crap. You just dont do it, its horrible poker etiquette.

Thats why the DR instituted that "must show when all in" rule, because players were taking forever to show their hands. When the dealer has to ask you 2x to turn up your hand, and you still dont do it, its an issue. And theres no advantage to this. I mean..what does a player gain by doing that? Nothing. All you're doing is slowing up the game.

I respect your opinion Orange, however there is a reason why most games outside of CR enforce the "must show" rule.

You have pocket AA's....flop comes Ac,As,3s...turn 4s, river 5s...

How long do I take to turn over my pocket 2's with the duece of spade making a straight flush and beating the quad Aces? :? :D

btw, no jackpot since both my cards don't play

CLN I thought slow rolling was basically slow playing (not betting with the nuts etc.)? What happens when somebody bets and a call or bet and reraise call at the river? Do both players have to show their cards? I really dont have a problem showing my cards I just hate when I want to see someone elses and they throw them in the muck.

Thanks

When you call somebody's bet, (or raise/re-raise) on the river, you have the right to see their cards. Even if they muck it, you can ask the dealer and they will show you.

If somebody calls your bet, (or raise/re-raise), he can muck and you don't get to see them.

No, slow rolling is when you "know" you have the winner and take a while to show it..

Any player last "called" is supposed to show first, from there its in the order from the button...

They are supposed to, but sometimes they just muck them. And that's ok, but any caller can request to see them. The guy may not like that (I've seen some arguments over it), but the callers have the right to see the bettor's cards.

Good to know. So there is no decent action until around 4pm daily/weekday/weekend?

Thanks

Yeah, I think 3-4pm is when it starts. In HDR, I think it may not get going to later anyway. At Horseshoe, they start by 4.

I'm sure CLN meant that the new rule at the DR "must show when all in" means that BOTH of the players must show their hands when either of them are all-in. It also doesn't matted if the player is all-in after the flop or the turn.

Also the game at the DR doesn't usually get enough players to start a game until around 5pm.

Actually, this Texas game is now booming in Central America...and that is why there are so many donks on the table. Some even do not know his hand is chop-chop 2 ways, and due to the fact that they watch ESPN too many times, they do have a habbit to go ALL-in very easily even though his hand is not NUT (by the way, what is a NUT to them). No wonder they are so embrassed to open his hand slowly and even refuse to MUCK it.
