Thanks Slim for that piece of info. I was wondering if they really check the airline schedule or just take what you tell them. I need to lie about both flights because I want to get money changed and get a sim card at the airport when I arrive - don't know how long those guys will wait, so I'll add 30 minutes to my arrival time.

Costa Rica Shuttle or Interbus?

What is your recent experience from airport?

Is there a long wait at the airport like Super Shuttle in the US?

Do they drive you around a lot dropping off people or is it pretty direct to the downtown hotel?

Within 10 seconds of walking out the airport door I had a private cab to the gulch for $25 US. Should be a non issue.

Book through Costa Rica Shuttle (they contract with Interbus). If you pay with PayPal you will have a recourse if there's a problem. On my trip last month, after getting my luggage, I went to the departure side to exchange some money. When I went back outside the arrival area, there was a guy there holding a sign with my name. I didn't see him on my way to exchange money, but he may have been there. He called the van to pick me up. It was about 5 minutes for the van to arrive. I was the only passenger so they took me directly to my hotel (Dunn Inn). Overall, very good experience and I will be taking them again when I arrive on the 19th - all for $9.50 each way. I tip the guy with the sign a buck and the driver about a buck and a half.

Costa Rica Shuttle and presumably Interbus lists an extra $9.50 charge for "extra luggage". Has anybody with checked luggage actually been charged this? How much extra did you bring?

They charge extra for surfboards and if you have more than 2 pieces of luggage.

The day I arrived (April 30th), the airport taxi booth was closed, so I guess taxis used the meters that day.

You don't need to worry about them waiting for you when you arrive. That's never been an issue, they will wait if your flight is late. They will ask for your flight number arriving and leaving. I fudge the leaving one to something that's an hour later. It gets me to the airport at a more reasonable time.

Did I make some error? I was quoted $30 one way; the taxi charged me less.

I arrived at midnight on the 27th. I used the orange taxis (meter), and the charge to the gulch area was around 12 mil, around $23. I haven't seen taxi's allowed at the departure gate. You can go around to the main street and catch a taxi there. Or use the Alejuala bus and either walk from the station or take a short taxi ride.

There are taxistas that will do the ride for $20.00. The shuttle sounds like the best deal for me, sorta like a taxi but closer to bus fare prices.

Costa Rica Shuttle Bus (http://www.shuttlebus.co.cr) is having some internet problems. He expects the site to be operational sometime Friday morning. The cost is $9.50 each direction between the airport and San Jose.
