For us, it's current economic crisis. For them, it's less gringos in DR, "no business".

99% of them don't know and couldn't care any less about what is going on in the world around them. They have certainly not adjusted their attitude or "business model" at all.

Generally speaking, I'd agree, Orange...but on my trip in March, I was suprised to talk to quite a few girls in the DR who commented on how slow things had been & asked how the economic situation was in Canada (after I told them where I'm from).

I'm fortunate in that my job is only minimally affected by this whole thing. A few were surprised to hear I'd be back in May, ie so soon.

Congratulations on finding the 1%.

Monger, thank you. I like the way you think. While I am far from an expert at CR or mongering in general but hopefully my 50 years of living has taught me something about people. I'd like to think deep down we're all just people making it through our day to day lives. When we expect the worst then the worst is what we generally get. When we look for the good we generally find that as well. We should all keep in mind, Desperation breeds desperate measures and people will always do what they believe is in their own best interest.

I'm sure the jaded will call me naive but I'll be in CR the second week of June for my first mongering experience, there. I'll be looking for the kind of experience Monger speaks of and I'll do it by treating the girls I meet with kindness and respect. That's just how I roll. Of course, I'll also be looking out for my own best interest, which means I'm not there to be hustled, I'm there to have a good time and hope they will have a good time too. If I can't find a way to make it all work then, I probably won't ever go back because to do so would mean compromising in what I believe in most.

KL,

This is the strategy that I employ also and it has served me well !
Never underestimate how far just a little bit of kindness and respect can go.

I remember a couple of years ago in SJ when I picked up Paola, a pretty Colombiana in the DR one afternoon. We chatted for a while never discussing money or services. We ended up walking over to Tin Jo for lunch and more pleasent conversation. Still no talk of money or services to be rendered.

After we finished we decided to walk to the SL (where I was staying) and I was treated to one of my top 3 alltime GFE's by a Colombiana anywhere! We spent a total of about 4 - 5 hours together and when we finished she looked at me and in her somewhat broken Ingles she said "you, today I treat like boyfriend !" I will never ever forget it. I ended up paying cien and I asked her if this was enough as I handed it to her and she said that it was sufficient.

Random acts of kindness can payoff big sometimes. Yes sometimes you can meet more jaded girls who will not appreciate gebtlemanly behavior but for every one of these more "hardened" chicas I promise you that there are another 2-3 that will respond well and appreciate your kindness.

The trick is just sorting them out !

It really upsets me when I see one of my countrymen treating the locals poorly. I have trouble keeping my mouth shut and many times I do not.
I was born and raised in the deep south where we are taught manners from an early age. It is too bad that you can find way too many "ugly Americanos" in CR these days!

Pac, life is what you make it buddy.

Rainman, too many ugly people every where these days and I don't mean uglyness you can see in a mirror. Common decency doesn't cost a cent much less cien.

Now, with regards to the economy......... AM I GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND MORE OR LESS TO HAVE A GOOD TIME? LOL

ok- tourism is down 20% thats macro level. lets go to micro level;

What is considered slow in the hotel del rey or key largo?
do fridays and saturdays at night seem like wed and thurs from years past? just how crowded is blue marlin on a friday and saturday night compared to 2007?
are there rooms available in sleep inn or del rey if you just walk in mon thru thur?
is sportmen's lodge always 100% booked up?

any insights welcome

This is the natural slow time on CR. SL is filled on weekends but has availability during the week. Don't know about HDR, etc.

I do know that the top providers are still finding work, although not as easily. Some girls are getting out of the game: Two of SLs former providers are working at the Horseshoe, another is working in the tourist industry in a legitimate capacity and several have been taken off the market by novios.

Some of the remaining providers have stepped up their mission to find a more secure source of income. They find a monger they like, hopefully living here or spending at least part of each month here, and offer him a discount rate for full occupancy. He pays a stipend a month and gets the "all access pass". She may or may not work on the side and he may or may not be "allowed" to partake elsewhere (exclusivity has a price as well). She gets a secure income and he gets all the poosie he can eat!

While some are cycling out of the game, others are cycling in. As times get tougher, more girls who previously avoided selling their assets are considering the options. There is, after all, a new graduating class of applicants every day!

Overall, I would say it is a great time to be in CR. Anyone who finds himself still able to come and play will find plenty of willing participants. Depending on a host of factors, the average guy can have a very good time or an "Oh my GAWD!" time. Everything in between is available as well.

thanks for the gluch info. I have not been down in three years.

the gluch is quite the place to drop into after my whitewater rafting
tours. it always fun to hear the tour guide tell the tour bus driver the next dropoff is hotel del rey. even better with a bunch of self rightous gringas onboard.

it seems the airfares are real well priced going into sjo. i will have to try the orlando/sjo jetblue service soon.

bestregards
