As is usual....VB gets it right. That stated....what really concerns me more is the trend toward paying cien and even more for the experience. The fact is that it is a buyers market with many more available chicas than customers. They ask cien, because guys have been paying cien. I don't blame the chica ...I blame the monger for not being able to carry a conversation beyond how much money. If you can carry a decent conversation for a few minutes, the chica may see this as more than a financial transaction and accept that she will get some money and go home sexually fulfilled also. Possibly the proper response to cien por un hora is... OK baby....I'll take 5 minutes worth at 4000 colones. Next.

Cien is Spanish for one hundred, meaning $100.00 here. Cien por una hora is a hundred dollars for one hour.

Other frequently used Spanish terms you might read here:

TLN/toda la noche = All-nighter, she stays through breakfast.

Pendejo = Friend

Culeame = f*ck me (not necessarily in the butt)

Culo = Anus

Cola = Ass

Tracero = Butt

I think the ideal is to get the best experience while at the same time not looking like a chump who just fell off the truck.

As you know, I have a lot of Spanish. I have heard girls laughing at gringos (including me) about overpayment.

This has been said before, but the girls are earning top dollar in C.R. if they are earning even $20.00/hour. Economy of scale and all that.

So, I think the secret is to strike a balance between paying too much or not getting the experience you want.

And price doesn't always guarantee quality. My worst lay of my last trip was a cien, my best was $44.00. I got two freebies, a couple of multiple-hour/multiple pop sessions for a hundred, and a session where I paid but didn't get laid at all! But hey, the massage was great.

At times I remind those chicas that I pay them to like me; which I know for a few chicas it bothers them 'cause they want to "show" me they aren't putas at heart . You might be surprised at what results you get from this playful guilt trip... Well, I do not get it. I will assume that you reach out to the chica because you want it some poon but because she quoted you a ridiculous price, you immediately folded. Why not use that to your advantage. I agree that you do not want to spend too much time negotiating if she does not bulge but if you speak some Spanish is a matter of putting at her at ease and play the fun part of her being with you. I use words like “mi princesa” and I will treat you like “mi reina”. Also, I make her think that the nearest 300+lb gringo is about to pounce on her. Once they are out of their mercenary mindset all possibilities are open. My $.02.

JOsie, when I was playing in San Jose it basically boiled down to the fact that I would get bored and entertain myself at times. Never in a mean spirited way, but when I got ridiculous stuff from the chicas, I would play with their head a little... When I did play, i was never a hard negociator... That is a lot closer but, if you really want to be precise, Pendejo is something even worse than asshole. It is that piece of shit that clumps to the hair around your ass - a "dingleberry" (from the Latin pendulus which means hanging or swinging). Of course that is all just being literal. Essentially, it all basically amounts to the same thing - an insult. Its just a matter of degree. Pendejo is often used interchangeably for some one who is acting like an idiot, an asshole or a jerk. I've also heard another version from my cuban friends that pendejo literally means a pubic hair, which also fits with its latin roots. In that case it is used to mean pu*sy, wimp or coward (presumably because you keep your pubic hairs tucked hidden away).

OTOH, such derogatory terms are also often used jokingly or even affectionately among friends in spanish, as in "Hola gordito", "Si, mi flacita", "Yo stupido", "Hey Triple FFF, you pendejo." So technically you COULD use pendejo to refer to your friends as in "mi amigo, Triple FFF, es uno pendejo", but you wouldn't want to say something like "uno pendejo es mi amigo" :roll::oops: or use it for ass as in "Oye, tu tienes uno pendejo hermoso." :roll::? You could see how people might take that the wrong way. Basically, you have to be careful HOW you use it, particularly if you don't really know the person you're saying it to that well, unless you actually WANT them to take it as an insult.

BTW, Brujo actually means "Warlock" or a male witch. Bruja is the more commonly used feminine form, as in "Escazu, Ciudad de Las Brujas". The "witches" of Escazu legend were considered "good witches" doing things like brewing up love potions and such. I don't know if referring to Pac55 was meant as compliment or a subtle dig. Maybe, it was meant to suggest that Pac is some sort of wizard with the ladies, but then the more accurate term would be "Mago".

Tracero IS usually translated as butt rather than ass but basically amounts to the same thing. It is considered a much more polite way of saying it then Culo.

Nalgas means buttocks or ass so I suppose Nalga without the final "s" would mean an individual asscheek.

Cola does literally mean tail and I've only heard it used for that purpose by hispanics. I suppose gringos sometimes use it for ass but that is probably just a mispronunciation of Culo. OTOH, Colo (with an "o" at the end) is another word for C*ck or dick.

And Culo is often used with other terms such as Culo Barato (cheap ass), Culo Seco ("dry ass" or someone that acts like they have something stuck up their butt), Culo Diablo (literally "devil's ass" used for the guy who just cut a fart and tried to sneak it by), Culo Wango ("loose ass" used for slutty girls) and Culo Del Mundo (literally "asshole of the world" used to refer to somewhere out at the ends of the earth in some god foresaken place).

Finally, if you're really interested in terms such as these, you might want to check out http://alternative-dictionaries.net/dictionary/Spanish/. Just be aware that some of the terms are local idioms, peculiar to particular countries (mostly to Mexico). However they are interesting nonetheless. Strangely, pendejo did not make that list, but you can take my word for what it actually means.
