Yes, you are right Ciaociao32001 . That is why I typically refer to our special friends as ladies of leisure or some other colloquialism. But your point is well taken, even in our supposedly (theoretically) semi-private postings, we should, in our writings, keep mindful of treating others, both fellow hobbyist and our special friends, with dignity and respect. That is what I think Phantom was trying to say. It is what I was trying to say. After all, what we say, what we write, is indicative of what we think and the way we think.

On another thread, Dapanz1 related a story about an incident at the HDR where “some coked out gringo took a Colombiana up to the room and sliced her up pretty good.”

See https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... sc&start=0

Those are exactly the kinds of overt acts which bring urgency to politicians who want to right wrongs and change laws which otherwise authorize practices to which the politicians are strongly opposed.

The political pressure to rewrite the VAWA (violence against women act) which was found unconstitutional by Sala IV, is very strong. My guess is that if the legislature does not try to stop the practice of P4P, they will certainly make it clear that violence against a lady of leisure is going to be severely punished.

To illustrate the degree of power behind the movement, those of us who have ICE cell phones got at least two messages last week from the national women’s advocacy institute (INAMU) announcing rallies to oppose violence against women.

The importance of that, as it applies to this theory, is that a significant part of the national communications system was authorized at the highest level of government, presumably the president, to be used to transmit the messages. Remember, ICE is semi-autonomous and therefore it would take presidential influence to authorize a message to be sent out.

Presidential support will be critical and important to making changes.
The three concepts which will bring law enforcement attention to our hobby are the “Three C’s of Vice”:

1. It is Conspicuous

2. Is it Commercialized

3. It is Complained of

If we flaunt in public our relationships with our special friends, that are conspicuous; if some dim-wit criminal slices up a woman -- regardless of her profession, that is conspicuous; if it takes place in a specific area, it may not technically be commercialized but it gives the appearance of commercialization; and certainly, all of those issues culminate in complaints.

This is the key I believe. An old slob with a cute young girl doesn't look right to most so why telegraph it. Have fun but lets get real :) ....

If you understand Spanish & local slang well enough follow this type of couple where they go & listen to what is said. Ticos have great senses of humor  ..

There is some truth in this, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

In reality, the puta draws more attention then the Gringo. So it mostly depends on how old the puta and what she is wearing. If you are running around with a 30 something puta wearing civilian clothes, then no one is going to pay attention.

If you are running around with your favorite 2o year old colombiana with her silicone breasts popping out of her top, it really doesn't matter what you do or what you look like.

I think Prolijo, Thirdworld, DiegoC and others have made a very valid case for discreation and decent behavior in public and especially outside the gulch.

To persons who argue that they do not care what people think and they are going to flaunt themselves and the young ladies, I have a few questions for them.

Would they take a young working girl to their office party back home ?

Would they let their sisters and mothers know that they like to hangout with young working ladies in their home town or in Costa Rica ?

We openly inform people of our passion for football or golf or tennis but we do not flaunt our love for mongering. We have to be discreet. That is a reality we have to understand.

So if we are discreet at home why do we have to be "in your face, I don't care a shit" in Costa Rica ?

That kind of person is a hypocrite.

Isra123,
In my opinion your comparisons are like comparing apples to oranges. Costa Rica is not like the United States in the way of picking up working chica’s, it’s more a way of life for many women in CR. I feel like it’s an accepted culture in many ways. In my reply to the original posting all I was trying to say is if an older grandpa type wanted to continue to enjoy his company at breakfast the next morning and people were watching or snickering behind his back, who cares? Grandpa is in CR in the first place because of the chica’s right? Hard to compare that with the U.S. The behavior in public is another thing; the original post was rather vague in that respect.

You don't see Ticos out in the street with their Puta do you? No you do not! I can guarantee you that there are a hell of a lot more of them doing business then there are Gringos.

The difference is they keep their business off the street.

Isra conceded that point too easily. Phantom is right. Mongering may be a part of the latin culture in the sense that it is more expected that men will consort with prostitutes or mistresses. However, it is still done with a heckuva lot more discretion than most gringo mongers exhibit when they THINK they are in a foreign environment where anything goes. Not EVERYTHING goes. And, while it may be apples and oranges in the sense that many ticos use prostitutes, it is hardly apples and oranges in the sense that those activities are kept very private. Just look around you and tell me how many older ticos you see taking their young chica hookers from the night before out to breakfast. If everything is so out in the open then why do they have love motels like the Motel Eden where guys can drive into a private garage in a complex behind high walls so that they can not be seen with their mistresses? And if these activities are so accepted by the general public, then why are the local authorities harassing businesses like the HDR and the various MP's on trumped up charges like immigration and handicap violations? I'll throw out one last aspect of this. Even IF the locals don't care about what we do, they do care about CR's image with all the other tourists which bring their country the vast bulk of its income.

This is not about whether you feel embarassed being seen out in public with what is obviously a paid companion, whether there is really anything wrong with being with such a companion (we all agree there shouldn't be), whether you think it is only your business or whether you THINK that the locals don't notice or don't care. Whatever you think, the evidence is quite plain that the locals do notice, often do care, and react negatively if not overtly at that time to that particular monger then to gringos in general. This can be seen in all the pressures to curtail our activities in CR, which is a least partially the result of our being so in your face about what we do.

With all due respect, guys like Brent who continue to argue their points are IMHO just foolishly deluding themselves AND, if they really do as they say, bringing harm to ALL of our practices in CR. We can contiue to debate this issue until we're all blue in the face, but its all already pretty much been said and, unfortunately, some guys will just never get it.

Gents:

I have been reading this thread off and on for a while and I want to echo the sentiments of brothers Prolijo, CiaoCiao, Pac55 and several others. We sometimes need a reminder to elevate the discussion of our experiences and lady friends. I know for me, I want to feel good about all the experiences I have and dragging our conversation, behavior or general feelings into the gutter just go against my grain. I never feel the need to flaunt or show off but I always want to feel free to laugh and have a good time. My freedom to swing my fist ends where the other person's nose begins, no?

By raising the bar a little with our behavior and attitude the experience is so much sweeter. The lady that I see frequently in SJ is a lady - and we treat each other with respect and have a heckuva good time together, in public and private.

As someone I know told me recently, the quality of the woman is usually a direct reflection upon the quality of the man who she is with!

Don't forget to bring your taco. The SL has all new felt and rails on the pool table now. The games are fast and furious. As always, there has been some good action but it sure isn't the same w/o you amigo. SL 9-21? Perfect !

Wow, that sounds familiar! In all of my (limited) experiences in CR, from a green newbie arriving solo last Nov to living here full-time 10 months later, these words are so damn true! Couldn't have said it better!@!!!

Pura Vida
