I was just watching a major News Channel here in the good ol US of A and they were discussing how just a few months ago Americans abroad were generally jeered and frowned on because we were Americans and now...since Obama has been elected everything has reversed course and foreigners have actually gone up to Americans and Kissed them. Seems like people are loving Americans again. So the question is.....Does this means the Ticas will love us more?? :D :D :D

This should be in the Fun Stuff/Smack Talk Section.

I seriously doubt the world opinion about has has changed in the 4 days since he was elected.

Direct to all:

I disagree with the statement. It is my opinion that the moment the Republic candidate conceded to the Democratic candidate the world's opinion of the average American greatly improved. For the last eight years we had told the world it's not us doing all these bad deeds it's the government. Like we thought they didn't know we elected them. Now we have put them out of office. So when we say the American people did not approve of that behavior they can believe us.

As always just another opinion. 8)

Who let Sean Hannity in the room? I don´t care much for zealots on either side, but there is no doubt we are liked more today than we were last week... And laughing, that´s what they´ve been doing for the last 8 years. All because of the arrogance of the US gov´t. And you can pretty much slam both sides... Not too many citizens that are really informed and educated on matters... Just robots listening to preachers on the right and the left. I´m actually seeing a country like Nicaragua as being more intelligent on their reasons for voting.....

Apologies Admin1, but this took a long time to compose and you had not yet posted your admonition. I won't edit it away because it took a lot of work to put together and is just a compilation of data from other sites. Delete it if you feel it is inappropriate.

Respectfully, your statement shows your lack of information. I will post the link below, but a few highlights:

According to the Pew Research center, among WHITE voters (so we don't have to factor in home-race advantage):

Post Grad degrees: Obama 54%, McCain 44%
High School or less: McCain 58%, Obama 40%

http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1023/exit-p ... lysis-2008

Since the USA uses the Electoral College system, by state results are also interesting. (District of Columbia not included)

Top 10 states, percent of population older than 25 with bachelor's degree or higher
Median household income & (rank)

Massachusetts 35.8 $54,617 ( 8 ) 62/36% Obama
Colorado 34.7 $52,011 (11) 54/45% Obama
Connecticut 34.6 $57,369 (5) 61/38% Obama
Maryland 34.5 $58,347 (2) 62/37% Obama
Virginia 32.2 $54,301 (9) 52/47% Obama
New Jersey 32.1 $59,989 (1) 57/42% Obama
Vermont 32 $48,508 (16) 67/32% Obama
Minnesota 30.6 $56,084 (6) 54/44% Obama
New Hampshire 30.3 $58,223 (3) 54/45% Obama
Washington 30.2 $50,885 (14) 58/41% Obama

Now the bottom ten:

Oklahoma 21.9 $38,895 (43) 66/34% McCain
Tennessee 21.5 $39,524 (41) 57/42% McCain
Louisiana 21.3 $36,814 (46) 59/40% McCain
Alabama 21.2 $38,180 (44) 60/39% McCain
Indiana 21 $43,735 (32) 50/49% Obama
Nevada 19.5 $48,314 (17) 55/43% Obama
Arkansas 19 $35,591 (48 ) 59/39% McCain
Mississippi 18.7 $34,508 (50) 56/43% McCain
Kentucky 18.6 $37,566 (45) 57/41% McCain
West Virginia 17 $35,234 (49) 56/43% McCain

Worst form of government ever created. 51% rule 49%. The founding fathers actually formed a REPUBLIC. Big difference. The republic was all for small federal govt., leaving most decisions to state and local govts. That is all I will say in this mostly political thread.

Even with the principal of states deciding issues not specifically given to the federal government, which certainly has been usurped, majority rule was never abrogated.

Majority rule has always been the guiding principal of United States democracy.

Can any of you actually say that you've had a bad experience abroad for the sole reason that you were american?

For the last 4 years, I have spent 50 weeks out of the year outside the US (living in Panama but traveling all over about 75-80% of the time) and I can't say that I have.

I wont be partisan with my post.
Maybe the rest of the world is happy that a country that touts equality for all finally elected someone other than a crusty old white anglo saxon protestant. ( yeah I know Kennedy was catholic-what diversity!!) Maybe they think that we are finally walking the walk.
Now maybe I wont feel like a liar when I tell a Ch*ld " Hey if you work really hard you can be president when you grow up.)
I 'm just saying.
