Any updated info on hotels near the beaches? I'm looking for inexpensive place for a couple of nights. TIA

I stayed at the Hotel MA. Mixed feelings about the place, will probably try another place if I go back, although the price was right here.

Pros:
1. Location, Location, Location!- walk to beach, MA park, and restarants.
2. Some rooms may have ocean view, mine didn;t
3. Price- Under 100 bucks durn peak last 2007 YR

Cons:
1. AC- old window shaker type, and loud! also got shocked once when I touched it.
2. No pool- I'm a pool person really.
3. Power Outages- No generator

TT

As far as I am aware, Manuel Antonio has very few hotels on the beach. Even the ones close to the beach require a strenuous hike. I would suggest staying at Costa Verde or its next door neighbor, Casitas Eclipse, both on the road leading to the beach. The busses will take you to the beach and you will have a great view and will experience the rain forest, three toed sloths and variety of monkees. Plus, I like having the restaurant, El Avion, close by. Both of these hotels are moderately priced, as well.

Only two in your price range right on the beach--Verde Mar, w kitchens; and Karahe, both have websites, I prefer Verde Mar because of the little kitchens.

About 2 1/2 hours by road or 18 minutes in the air.

We stayed at the Hotel California. Nice place....nice swimming pool and a decent breakfast buffet that you can eat by the pool. We had a 2nd floor room with a little balcony. In the morning, the monkeys in the trees would come right to our balcony and eat out of our hands. We saw more monkeys from our hotel balcony than we saw in the National Park. :)

Shawn4DR, I stayed at the Hotel Karahe about 2 years ago. I was impressed overall. It has a private beach and is a short walk on the beach to the park. The monkeys visited the place each day as well as other critters. The monkeys walked on the roof of the restaurant (pretty good food and reasonable) and drank from the swimming pool (small pool but nice). No TV, however it had cold AC. You have a choice of rooms, one side is across the road and up the hill, the other choice is my preference (what they call the ocean view, but can hardly see the ocean from any room due to the trees at the approach to the beach), view of the pool, restaurant and more relaxing. The room was large with a balcony (2nd floor) and the bed comfortable. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was under $90 per night and convinient to town and the park. I would definately stay there again.

Here is the website, http://www.karahe.com/

My room was on the corner of the second floor facing the pool on the south side and is recommended.

The area of Manuel Antonio is very steep and hilly so caution in the respect of road noise at some hotels located in the hills. The trucks and buses downshift and scream up and down the hills which is annoying. There is also some construction going on in the area and if building is in progress, the noise can also be annoying. Be sure to call and ask if construction noise is a concern at any hotel you are considering.

I hope this helps. Say hi to bang 57 for me.

If you have further questions PM me.

Buena suerte amigo. :)

need to clarify something about the hotel california. it is not a monger hotel by any stretch. ok to take "girlfriends" but better not to invite the obvious total puta types.
