I always get a good chuckle out of Delta. I have flown Delta out of Detroit to SJO I think four times now. After Spirit started to fly out of FLL to SJO, the Delta fares tanked.

I had one fare at $276 RT from DTW, connecting in ATL, then on to SJO.

Just for fun, I checked the fare for someone on the same connecting flight if originating from ATL and it was about $300 higher!

Thanks for all the info gentlemen. I always try not to wait until the last minute on stuff for my trips but it sounds like I need to when it comes to airfare. I have AA Dealfinder on my desktop so if I see a lower fare (at least $150 lower- thanks MG), then I will re-book. Gracias again amigos! :D

Anouther note El Gringo, If you by chance booked on AA keep an eye on fares as you date approaches. If the fare drops for your flights they will credit you the difference but you have to call and ask. I agree closer to travel dates is a better time to buy. Most good sales I have seen have been about 30 to 90 days out from Dallas.rbc100

I think I read something about a change in AA's policy here earlier, confirmed it tonight when I called AA. The price of my flights dropped, called AA for the credit, they wanted to charge me $100 to issue me a credit of $20! Muy... :?:
I have been issued a refund for a drop in price before but I guess their policy has changed.

Here is the detailed information you were looking for...courtesy of Mucho Gusto

This morning I found out about an AA policy change, and it really sucks, especially if you’re an AA frequent flyer:
In the past, if you booked a round trip ticket with AA - and then the price on that itinerary dropped – normally they would always credit you for the difference in price. I know of several CRT members who had taken advantage of this policy in the past. Personally, I’ve gotten credits on cheaper flights numerous times over the past several years.

Well…. things have changed, and they’ve implemented new guidelines to their policy. If you book your flights (and the price drops at a later date) they will ONLY refund you the difference in price, up and above the “ticket change fee” (which usually is around $100.) In other words, if you book a round trip ticket for $400, and then (at a later date) you see it advertised for $270, they’ll only refund you $30, which is the price difference (after the change fee is applied). So basically, if the price on your flight drops $100 or less, you’re out of luck with a refund! And if the price drops more than $100, you have to eat the 1st $100, and you’re entitled to the balance of the difference. But you’d have to completely re-book your itinerary.

Looks like they've adopted the Continental Airlines model for fleecing you on change fees. Continental has been doing it this way for many years.
