Cult or whatevever, it is the size of the pour I am interested in. I found on my first and only trip that the bar maids at the Del Rey were not very friendly with the pours, despite good tips. I can pay the bar....or I can tip the bartender, but not both. I'd prefer to tip the bartender.
I asked the Del Rey barkeep what the deal was, and the woman said the camera. Nonsense...there is too much commerce in that place for an accurate managerial measurement of the amount of pours on small basis.
By the way....what say those in the know about bringing in one's own flask and discretly using same in the Blue Marlin or the Key Largo? This $50 a bottle of Scotch isn't even on their menu and the Johnnie Walker gets tiresome at the high price.
Yeah....call me Silas Marner, Jr. I like to keep the money in my pants and in the bank and in my safes. However, if the bar keep is giving me GOOD pours, I am more than happy to pay the going rate.
After all, no head....no backstage pass, right>?!
I have found that almost everywhere in CR, a drink will contain one shot, measured with painstaking accuracy. You may call the cameras nonsense, but I know a bartender who was fired from the Key Largo for giving away a few soft drinks. I have never seen the level of tightness and penny pinching I have seen among bar (and restaurant) management here. If you want a healthy(?) drink, order a double or triple. If you want a decent price on said drink, stay the Hell out of the Del Rey (or any other gringo bar).
