not to mention that TACA has new planes and AA has pre WW2 buckets of bolts. when was the last time you saw planes with the tvs hanging in the center aisle? and the interior plastic in the plane is now that aged yellow.
not exactly a confidence builder. TACA for me.

That true. The one time I flew AA I was kinda worried about those planes. I read the average age of their planes is like 20 years. That's the average, so every new plane they get brings the 40 year old planes much closer to the average.

DAMMNNNN...

When El Silencioso told me DG was also at the airport going home yesterday I thought how good it must be to be so close.

Last time I flew them, during take off all the hydraulic fluid leaked out of the wings onto the Tarmac...thank god the pilot noticed during take off, we reached half way down the runway and he noticed and then called off the flight, thank god. It was an old decrepit airbus from the 70s that should have been retired, those Cheap arse biiacthes putting my life at stake so they can squeeze an extra nickel, avoid this airline at all costs.
AA has got to clean up its act/game its truly a disaster waiting to happen boycott those MFs

I have always had good luck with American. Just boked trip in February for $231 with all taxes to CR from Orlando. Hell, I can't fly to Miami for that!

I also have had good luck with AA....up until last week. Flight out of MIA was scheduled to depart at 10:10 am but did not depart until 12:30 pm...return flight from SJO to MIA was scheduled for 3:10 pm but didn't take off until past 4 pm. Although not anywhere near what DG went through, it's making me rethink booking with them for March. :?:

They do have a $260 R/T fare out of FLL including taxes but is it really worth it?

IMHO, NO !!!!

1 trip on AA to CR out of 16, of course delayed 3 hrs in both directions....

Many many friends who fly AA all over the US and to CR, most times nightmare stories such as Don Gordo's are the usual common denominator

I agree with Orange above, would much rather travel in newer planes, courteous staffs and always on time TACA..TACA..TACA..

When TACA adds FLL as a destination then you have a decision to make until then grab the $260.00 fare :D

Have flown both from Miami over the years and never had a problem with either. Age of fleet or no age of fleet will take AA's A300 over TACA's A320 any day. Will take TACA's service and free food and booze over AA's any day.

Both have good points and bad no clear winner here so $$$$$ make my choice.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with AA and yeah I would avoid them too if I had a choice...

If you fly often enough, as you know, eventually you're gonna run into situations like this. Problem is, the lack of customer service. IMHO the "Phuck the customer" attitutude that most of the airlines seem to have today is particularly acute at AA. They really don't give a rat's ass how they treat you. You'll be back, or not... they don't seem to care. Guess it's not part of their business model to treat you more than a slab of flesh with a credit card to occupy a seat on the plane.

Going down on Spirit next week....with fingers crossed

If that wasn't a serious post it would certainly qualify as one of the funniest.

I am sure there are airlines who treat you a whole lot better than AA but to say you are going to fly Spirit over AA because of "Phuck the customer attitude" is ludicrous. Spirit has a documented history of absolutely having a corporate philosophy of they get a cheap seat so they get what they paid for. Let them bitch and complain they will be back because we are the cheapest and if they go elsewhere there are others who will put up with us in order to fly on the cheap.

I think Phoenix is flying Spirit because the price is right and he probably has accumulated enough miles to fly Spirit all year on ff miles. Prior to last month they were the only name in the game from FLL to SJO. I hope he and the Clam have an uneventful, on time flight to SJO next week.

I will be experiencing AA to SJO from FLL. I hope to avoid the complications described by DG.

I agree that bad customer service is in Spirit's corporate philosphy. The Clam has written them several letters and they never respond. On the other hand, the major carriers seem to at least respond if not offer a voucher when I get pissed enough to fire off a letter.

I had problems with AA on my first trip to Costa Rica and i contacted their customer service department.(they sent me a voucher for my troubles)I haven't had any problems since that first trip so i will probably continue to use them since they addressed the problems that i had.

sorry DG about our flight and your luggage.....after AA canceled the second flight.....I left the airport and went back to my girls' apartment and slept comfortably wrapped in her arms in her warm bed......I knew better than to hang at the airport.......I arrived home the next day @ 8 pm. Yes my flight the next day was also delayed 1 hour......I had the same problem in December.

Man this scares the fok out of me. I've flown that bucket of bolts Airbus at least twice if it is the one that has the 2-4-2 seat configuration. I like it because it is big and spacious however knowing that it blew a hydraulic line or pump and then dumped all the fluid half way down the runway scares the bejesus out of me.

Is that series really from the 70s?? I'm thinking mid to late 80s. Once airborne it has always flown well although taxiing have always felt the mechanical movements.

I am happy to provide some unintended amusement for you, ID, but I fail to understand where you make the causal connection between my feelings about AA and the fact that I happened to book this trip on Spirit Air. Have reread my post and can't seem to find it, o wise Irish Drifter. Please explain.

Oh and tell us again where the "funny" part is, if you please? Missin that too. Not only that it's funny, but how it could "qualify as one of the funniest" Just curious.
