Well I decided to take the plunge and go bald. I bought one of those Gillette Venus or whatever brand it was, and that worked out nicely. I took my time, applied the shaving gel a few times, and got a nice, close cut.
However, the next day, I noticed I had some decent razor burn. Lots of red bumps, some clustered around my ass! It really looks ugly; looks like a lot of red bumps and little pimples mixed together. I think it's because I shaved both ways in certain parts (shaving with the grain does NOT cut very well, near the crotch or on the face - for me anyhow).
I went to the store today and bought some Bikini Zone razor burn treatment gel. It said I should have visible results in 24 hours. Man, I'm hoping it works because I leave for CR Friday morning, and I don't want the ladies thinking I have STD's or something..
Suggestions:
1. Use hot compresses (hot water, washcloth) applied to the razor burn/ingrown hairs before applying the Bikini Zone treatment.
2. Alternate Bikini Zone product with triple antibiotic ointment to prevent any open pores/sores from becoming infected.
3. Wear loose underwear or no underwear, particularly at home, until you leave.
4. Do not "touch-up shave" before leaving for C.R.
A couple questions:
1. Before beginning the shave, did you trim all the longer hairs with a sharp grooming scissors first?
2. Did you use a hot washcloth applied to your jewels before applying the shaving creme?
Even a new razor meant for shaving pubic hair (Venus) is great, it can't deal with hairs much longer than 1/16"". It is best to trim the hairs as close as you can before shaving. Also, using a hot compress to soften the hair before applying the creme seems to work well.
To prevent cross-grain shaving problems, allow the shaving creme to "set up" for a few minutes before beginning. This will help the hairs stand up and allow you to shave more often with the grain, causing fewer burns/nicks.
Finally, rinse the razor in warm water following each pass. I have found it is necessary to rinse the razor when I shave my crotch even more frequently than when I shave my face.
You shave your ass? Brave, very brave.
Hope this helps.
