I have a question about carry on luggage. I have always flown Delta exclusively for all my travel needs. I always pack light and usually carry a small Eddie Bower duffel bag for my clothes and toiletries. I also carry a backpack for more important items, such as passport, cash, travel itinerary etc. I make it a habit to carry on both my travel items because I loath waiting for my luggage. With delta I have never had to check either of these items.

On Sprit's website it says, "Each ticketed passenger is allowed to carry-on one bag. In addition to one carry-on bag, customers may bring one personal item, which includes a purse, briefcase, laptop or diaper bag, without charge." Will my backpack qualify as a "personal item"? I would hate to have to check my duffel bag and carry-on my backpack.

I know Sprit is a cheap airline and am sure would prefer to make any extra money possible. Any first hand experience with this would be appreciated.

FYI-I don't know when you last travelled, but there are now restrictions on what types of gels, lotions, liquids you can carry-on. Read the restrictions. You may need to check in a bag or just buy everything when you get there if they make you throw it out at security.

Flew Spirit last week, no problem carrying on your duffel bag and backpack.

I think you'll be OK. Spirit's added this new policy that they charge 10 bucks (at the counter)/5 bucks (online in advance) for checked in luggage so it's worth a shot.
