I stayed in a "regular" room last Memorial Day (literally a last minute change when they closed Amon Plaza) and it was around $60 a night.

Clean, hot water, mini-fridge, color TV, working A/C and phone and 1 block from the Del Rey. It served it's purpose.

I have 2 friends staying there now. They each have a regular room which is somewhat small but adequate. Clean, hot water, A/C, cable TV, phone, no mini-fridge, complimentary breakfast.

They used the coupon from the Tico Times and are paying $35.00 a night for Mon, Tue, Wed & Thurs nights. $40.00 for Fri, Sat & Sun nights. Both rates are without tax. Thats come out to $41.47 per night, including tax, and no chica fees. Great deal when you consider the location.

I made their reservations by phone and they had no problems when they checked in. Hopefully they have straightened out their act. If they have I think it is a hotel that could be become very popular with mongers.

Oh, make sure you ask for........never mind  :P   :P   :P   :P

I just spent a long weekend at the Hotel Morazan. The cost for a regular
room was just a little below $41 per night, including all taxes, after the
conversion. But, before the trip when I called to make the reservation,
they wanted $49. When I complained, they dug out a coupon for
me on their own. Also, on the phone they said that the new manager
insisted on a $10 chica fee. But when I checked in, I got a different
story: the $10 only applied to the second chica. They wanted
$3 per day for the room safe key.

The room was small, but that was OK with me. I liked the big mirror
on the wall where I could see a different view of my chica. I had a
balcony overlooking the corner, and I passed some pleasant times
out there looking at the streetwalkers, taxi drivers, and beggars.

Personally I don't like to walk into the Presidente with its French tourists
while I'm hand-in-hand with my puta of the moment.
The Morazan is all about mongers, with no eco-tourists. It shares
a wall with the Key Largo, so the location is as central as you can get.

The wi-fi set up for the 3rd floor lobby worked perfectly for me and
my computer. The staff are not particularly friendly, but neither am
I (except with the chicas). There were no errors in my bill (is that
a first in Costa Rica?). The room was clean, and they were painting
the hallways. To take a shower, all I did was turn on the hot water,
and by golly it worked in providing a temperature that I like.

The guy in the bar said that management of the bar/restaurant area
is now separate from the hotel, so there is no free breakfast. Anyway,
on weekends, totally drunk chicos sit in the bar until 11:00 A.M. after
their nights on the town -- no place to eat anyway.

Hotel Morazan: an all-monger hotel somewhere in the middle between
the Nuevo Johnson and the Sportman's Lodge in terms of quality, but a
better location than either.

Well like I said at the beginning of this post, I would have rather stayed at the HDR or Presidente. The Morozan is close to the HDR that is the only saving grace. I was supposed to have a Jr suite, wrong, standard room that the window was broke and could not be shut. This turned out to be a good thing since it was fairly cool at night and the AC was busted such that the AC only blew luke warm air. The first night there was no remote for the TV. I asked about that the next day. The front desk said to talk to the maid b/c at the end of every stay they want you to bring the remote down to check out. With the window broken VERY loud at night. Also no hot water on two different nights and one morning. Front desk blamed it on a new heating system, maybe, maybe not.

Other than the above, good trip.

anyone have an up to date price for a single? Never stayed there but my friend says he loves it there due to the no girl fee. I am considering staying at the best western again which I hate but its only like 40 bucks a night for when I am going.
Also I have played in that casino on many occasions but never seen a girl working the bar. Anyone know if there is any action there? I was down just 2 weeks ago and action was sparse everywhere. Went into the DR on a Sat and Sun afternoon and it was an absolute ghost town. Trying to figure out where things are happening at.

Use the discount coupon that is in the Tico Times every week. Mon - Thurs $35.00, Fri - Sun $40.00. Both rates plus tax of 16.39%. If you stay a week runs about $40.00 a night if you stay less the average is more or less depending on what nights you stay.

Considering the location it is the best deal in the gulch.

Would absolutely recommend that you make a reservation and get a confirmation number. Have been reports in the past of reservations "being lost" :P . Have not heard of that recently and friends who stay there have never encountered that problem but best to be on the safe side.
