I stayed in a "regular" room last Memorial Day (literally a last minute change when they closed Amon Plaza) and it was around $60 a night.
Clean, hot water, mini-fridge, color TV, working A/C and phone and 1 block from the Del Rey. It served it's purpose.
I have 2 friends staying there now. They each have a regular room which is somewhat small but adequate. Clean, hot water, A/C, cable TV, phone, no mini-fridge, complimentary breakfast.
They used the coupon from the Tico Times and are paying $35.00 a night for Mon, Tue, Wed & Thurs nights. $40.00 for Fri, Sat & Sun nights. Both rates are without tax. Thats come out to $41.47 per night, including tax, and no chica fees. Great deal when you consider the location.
I made their reservations by phone and they had no problems when they checked in. Hopefully they have straightened out their act. If they have I think it is a hotel that could be become very popular with mongers.
Oh, make sure you ask for........never mind
