I have never stayed at any of the low rent places. My first trip I stayed at the Marriott one of the best hotels in Costa Rica. On second trip I stayed at the Presidente, third & fourth the SL 6th Castillo, seventh SL, and I am booked for # 8 at the SL. However, if you use one of the CRT low Rent hotels you do not have to worry about safety any more then you would if you stayed at any of the higher end places. Admit one has worked hard to find us places to stay at all price ranges. I would look for one with a room safe and 24-hour security. If you are worried about getting stuff, rip off in your room that can happen anywhere. I cannot remember reading anything about repeated complaints about any one hotel. If you are worried, get mugged in front of one of those hotel just ask the door man (security) to call you a cab they will be happy to most get a little bit of a commission (50 or 100 colonies). I am very happy at the SL for short trips but next February I am planning to stay a month to attend Spanish school I will be looking into one of the low rent apartments and I will not feel unsafe staying there we have a lot of members staying at place like this with no problems.
So Tim Bones if you can explain what your problem is with stay staying at one of the apartments that many of our veteran members stay at let us know instead of witting a one line statement bashing me

A decision like where you would stay? A fleabag hotel or a nicer, safer place like the Castillo?
I stand by the statement I made earlier.

I do not believe it maters where you stay (I am talking about CRT hotels low rent or high end) If you are worried about being mugged, It is all about making good decisions. Do not take chances, do not walk anywhere at night. Do not get drunk and make yourself an easy target. It is as simple as that.
