It's not anymore dangerous than getting in any other "cab" anywhere in the entire city.
Yes, I will agree with that to a point, but I when I catch a cab in the city I usually don't have all shit in the trunk, so I can jump out if something is shady. (I'm not implying that I wouldn't leave my luggage if I smelled something wrong, but I don't really want to put myself in that position) And I'm with another person 95% of the time, which makes it less likely that they would try anything.

Your "fears" are unfounded and not backed by experience. Here's a little known fact..... not everything is TRUE or even based in FACT that one reads on CRT. Here's a good example. On any given night any sober gringo could walk through Parque Morazon UNHARMED. If though, one listen's to every "the sky is falling" opinion out there the impression is 3 gringos are stabbed to death and 5 others mugged every night in PM which, as we all know, is not the case.
That's quite an interesting way of looking at it. It only takes one time to become a statistic. Personally, I don't want to be the first, so I'll just avoid taking pirate taxis or private rides from the airport. So if no gringo got robbed in Morazan Park, you would conclude that it's safe to walk there at night by yourself?

Sometimes you just have to use common sense.
