I've never stepped foot inside the Hotel Asia, however, I met a fellow monger on my last trip to CR who seemed like a pretty decent guy. He told me that when he first started coming to CR some 10 or so years ago, he would get a room upstairs at the Hotel Asia, said it wasn't too bad and the price was right. At first I thought he was joking, but he said he wasn't.

Has anybody on the board ever actually stayed at the Hotel Asia that could offer some info on it? Maybe those rooms upstairs aren't too bad after all. I know the place has always taken the brunt of our hotel jokes.

I've never stayed there, but trip last I took a tour of the upper floor rooms. they are worn but cleaned everyday.

they are not to be confused with the rooms at the SL or Presidente.

the rooms on the street level are for short time rentals only.

I found the rooms at the Hotel Nuevo Johnson a bit better, but the location of the Hotel Asia to the gulch is closer.

this next trip, I'm also going to visit the Tico bar next to the Asia.

you get what you pay for.

I found rooms at some low rent Hotels up near Ave 5 and Ave 7 as low as $4-$5 a night (no private baths)

I think the Hotel Asia is more of a mongerer/little darling joint, while some of the other low end Hotels are for the Tico traveller/latino visitor to San Jose (not that they don't have pro little darlings onsite either)

that's my limited experience opinion.

Just back from a ten day stay at the Sleep Inn. I cut a deal with them ahead of time, because I will no longer spend 1 cent at the Presidente. I payed $75 a nite, that included my tax and breakfast. I also payed a one time fee of $25 for guests, that's correct only $25 for the 10 days. The place was great and I and my guests were happy and treated very well.
I told them upfront I will respect your property and in return I expect no chicas problems. Both the Hotel and I came away winners. I did all thru email.

Barry Cohen: That sounds like a great deal. I love the location of the hotel. How are the rooms? The place looks good from the outside. I always wondered about it when I walked from the Del Rey to the Sportsmens Lodge. It would be great if we could get this hotel in the CRT mix.

Admin, any chance of meeting with them or is this place just a corporate chain and out of the question? It's always good to have more options since the usual suspects are fequently booked.

If you actually got that deal they should induct you into the San Jose Monger Hall Of Fame. The Sleep Inn and the Colonial Casino have a very strict no puta policy. Been enforced for years at the Colonial. Sleep Inn runs an 85% occupancy rate (see post from Tman) and has a firm guest fee policy from the day they opened.

Hard to understand why they changed their policy to accommodate your needs. Care to hazard a guess as to why the gave you special treatment?
Think everyone would like to know your secret negotiating skill.

Not a flame just an honest opinion....do not believe it!

Barry that is surprising news, did you also negotiate that deal up front?
I see if you book the internet rate it's 67.50/night. (plus taxes) http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/ ... Nu$igukG.6

ID- I understood they had a 25.00 or 30.00 chica fee, which really isn't a "very strict no puta policy", (just an expensive one) :) And how does this policy apply to the casino, we take putas there all the time to eat so they must just not want them hanging out without a date that brought them?

That is a very good deal. Certainly would make one consider the Sleep Inn for future trips.

With hotels like the Gran Via [??] closing, it would be nice to see some more hotels come on board to take care of us.

ID-
With all due respect to you, as you are a frequent poster, and very insightful at times, if I was Barry C, and I was telling the truth--I would get the distinct impression that you were calling me a liar. What gives you the right to approach this infrequent poster in this disrespectful manner?
Perhaps this board could benefit from his negotiating skills--why is a different approach to be automatically scorned and disbelieved? Are you jealous? YMMV just got run off this board, and I thought he had some fresh ideas, altho his approach did not take into account the sensibilities of this board. How many more posters with fresh ideas will be run off because self-proclaimed experts ridicule and question other members.
I was just at the Sleep Inn, and altho I was obviously traveling with a black colombiana ho, we were both treated courtiously and with respect--which is more than you just treated Mr Cohen. Que pasa, dude??

You are correct Paco and I stated their policy poorly. They do not have a no puta policy but rather a puta tolerant policy ($25 - 30 guest fee.) The casino will only allow puta when accompanied. They are not allowed to ply their trade unaccompanied.

I really do not care if he is a frequent poster or infrequent poster that has absolutely nothing to do with his post. I stated I found his account of paying a one time chica fee of $25.00 for 10 nights disingenuous.

I believe that is exactly what I stated when I wrote:

Sorry you disagree with my comments but then I disagree with many comment made here. Thats part of a public forum.

As a very wise attorney once told me, "Son, there are times you probe ask questions and nibble at the story. There are other times when you just flat out challenge the credibility and let them defend their statement".

Just have to decide which approach to take.

I for one appreciate ID's handling of this situation. He is mearly trying to find out HOW such a deal can be accomplished. Just imagin if he did or said nothing and one of our own decides to check into the Sleep Inn thinking he will just negotiate a sweet like Barry and then has a rude awakening. We need to look out for our brothers and that's all that ID was trying to accomplish. The last thing we need on this board is inaccurate imformation.

All I did was to ask nicely in an email, stating I am a responsible person looking for a quality place to stay and will not embarrass the hotel or myself. When I left, I was told, " looking forward to your return ".

Maybe someday I'll know absolutely everything about the CR like some people claim they do. Just because one lives in an area does not make then an expert. I rest my case.

Can you give me more info on this? Why would they close? What is going to be in its place?

Might want to check out this thread:

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... ght=#97008

Off course you might want to swing by the Hotel and confirm that since it was reported and confirmed by two San Jose residents  . You know how little those guys know about what is going on.
