Yo Gents

After several years staying at the Presidente I decided to try the Amon mainly due to several factors.

1. They constantly hassled my GF for ID, even though I checked her into
the room and paid the additional fee.
2. The beggars and street hawkers outside the avenue entrance.
3. The clop clopping and door slaming due to the tile floors and doors
that always make a lot of noise when they close

Amon Plaza cured all of these things but I do believe you give up the followingl

1. Service is better at the President
2. Amon Plaza never had money to change dollars to Colones
3. Rooms are about the same for the standard room
4. Location is better at the President for a quick meal elsewhere
5. Fewer pros in and out of the Amon

With all of this said, I am certain that the Amon does not want to be a monger hotel and will institute policies preventing this if it becomes an issue. I would not pay more for the Amon Plaza.

I stayed at Both last Trip. I like Amon better as well.

I've stayed at Amon about 4 times now and not once when I went to the cashier at the front desk did I have any problem changing dollars into colones.

Perhaps because green season is starting?

Does the Amon have safes?

Can you be more specific? What service is better at the Presidente? and why do you say you are "certain that the Amon does not want to become a monger hotel"? Do they charge chica fees, at this time? Did the Amon ever give you any b.s. about bringing a girl in to your room?

I'm looking for an alternative to the Prez now that they have this anti-monger dress code policy in effect.

The people at the Presidente are simply more attentive and quick to respond to any need you might have. Just my observation.

Secondly, this hotel seems to deal with a lot of tourists from America and other countries and I highly doubt they want chicas constantly parading in and out.

If you discreetly bring one up and she is dressed properly, they don't seem to mind. In other words, it would not be obvious to the tourist trade.

I have to say without question the amon is better. I have stayed at both. The rooms at amon are nicer, the hot tub and sauna out back in the garden are a featuer not at the prez, the area is nicer and quieter, and it is a one block walk to zona blue. I now stay only at amon; but i do go up and have lunch at the prez to watch the show/chicas on parade. I feel i get the best of both worlds. 8) bat.

Ive wanted to check out the Amon Plaza for quite some time, but keep going back to the Presidente.

Id just like to note I have never had any problems with anyone at the Prez. They'll stop and have conversations, comment on how hot the chicas are, even make offers to take me out on the town.

IMO its hard to beat it. Your directly across from a little "drug store", surrounded by different restuarants, seconds from the DR. Basically your dead center of everything.

Now I understand the Amon is probably very similar as far as quality, but is it worth the extra 30$ ( I think 79$ a night? ). For that price, I could ALMOST get a junior suite at the Presidente. Know what I mean?

Im just wondering if the positives really add up?

Hey Jmac that little "drug store" is one of the biggest ripoffs in the gulch, (unless you negotiate with them) :)

I know, I normally go to the one down the street which is much cheaper. But, it does serve for those quick needs when your in a hurry or to lazy to walk donw the street.

Jmac...check out the CRT specials for rooms at the Amon Plaza (now called the Clarion) I think they are $50 plus tax during April and May.

I stayed at the Presidente and loved it, the location, the room and the one thing the Amon hasn`t got the rail.
