Any time AA comes out with a cheaper fare for your dates all you have to is call to get the credit. I have done it on several flight some more than one time.Of course you must have booked it through AAlines to get the credit. I am not sure on outher airlines but would be good to know.rbc100

DApanz, I booked a flight out of Ohare with AA advantage miles for May 13 thru May 18, and paid $30 along with 30,000 AdvantageMiles. Check it out.

Travelocity has dropped from $421 to $400 RT from Los Angeles. I predict a big drop in $$ after spring break is over.

It can be done but, what is the flight schedule for those days? Usually, it is a total cluster f*ck. Especially for a short stay like you are doing.

What’s behind the soaring cost of air travel?
Rising fuel prices, supply and demand drive fares higher and higher

By Don Teague

DALLAS - For Meridan Zerner and her two K*ds, Easter vacation started Wednesday, but not by choice. Flying midweek was the only way they could afford tickets from Dallas to Boston.

“I'm just used to having to pay a certain amount,” says Zerner, “so it's a bit shocking to have to pay more and to have to manipulate the schedule so much.”

The final price of $340 per ticket was almost double the price she paid for the same trip last year. That’s proof, say industry analysts, that Americans are willing to pay higher prices to keep flying.

“When Americans get their vacation, they’re going,” says airline industry analyst Terry Trippler. “If they’re going to see Grandma and they’re planning to see Grandma, $100 is not going to keep them home.”

Airlines have hiked domestic fares 16 times since January 2005.

Higher fuel prices are a big reason, but they've also reduced capacity — the number of seats available — from 89 million in 2001 to just 75 million seats today. That results in less supply, higher demand and airfares up 12.5 percent — with even bigger hikes on the way.

“We will probably see some of these airfares more than double by the time the last week of June comes in,” predicts Bestfares.com’s Tom Parsons.

That’s good news for struggling airlines, but a burden for some business travelers who've grown accustomed to cheap airfares.

Ivan Medanic consults for performing arts organizations like the Milwaukee Symphony. He flies to meet with clients several times a week.

“That adds up over the course of a four- or five-month project,” Medanic says, “and will definitely impact the bottom line.”

Still, Medanic says he'll keep flying despite higher prices. That's music to the ears of airlines with airfares that are taking off.

Keep seeing that figure reported, must be an avg. increase over the last year but my travel destination fares are up 50%-100% from 2 yrs. ago.

I am in the heavy equipment business,
I burn mucho diesel, BUT not as much as the airlines.

So I keep track of fuel costs from the wholesalers ,
as well as News sources , CNN ( spit ) and others.

It has been spoken , Fuel costs will rise above 2005 summer rates.

Speaking in Canadian terms,

as high as $ 1.25 per litre.

Do the math.

sorry to post this one.

I just booked San Francisco to SJO with AA for $250 + $72 in fees & taxes.

That's the lowest fare I've ever booked.

I found that this fare is available if you fly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The same flights on different days of the week were coming up nearly $200 higher.

I also booked 5 weeks in advance.

Hope that helps someone.
