Sorry I have to disagree. I first stayed at the Presidente in 1992. At that time San Jose attracted it's share of mongers but they certainly were not anywhere near the presence they are today.
The Presidente was renovating at that time and were still renovating for the next five years when I stayed there. They were during that time monger friendly but also had a large portion of their business supplied by family vacationers, eco-tourists, business travelers, etc. and they also contributed to the remodeling.
While mongering days at the Prez may indeed be numbered it is not because they took our money and remodeled it is because tourist traffic growth to Costa Rica has far outpaced hotel room construction. So it is now apparent that we need the Pres just as much as they need us.
