I am booked for the Canciones Del Mar for Memorial Day weekend. They told me over the phone that there was a $10 chica fee. Can anyone confirm this? I was going to book at the Copa, but after reading some posts here, the Del Mar seemed nicer.

I am leary about staying in Jaco for four days as I would like to try something else - my first and only trip was to Jaco in February. But because i have the added responsibility of showing others a good time, (A few buddies found out how much fun I had the last time and now are coming down for the long weekend. We are staying at the Sportmans on the 24th and 29th as bookends to our trip). I picked Jaco because I knew it was a sure thing good time. If anyone has any other spots that are strongly recommended during that time, that would be great. I would have loved to hit Tamarindo. But it apparantly is a brutal trip from Jaco. Quepos might be a possibility. I am still checking that out. Again, having others is my issue. We did rent a car though.

I am also looking for some good fishing in Jaco. But don't worry, I'll use the search engine on that one. :)

And ftr, I am following the advice of many others here, that the only was to get over the sadness of returning back to the states is to book your next trip.

After rereading my post, I would just like to say that I took the advice that was not given, yet: "Use the search engine newbie!"

As for fishing, I am going to call the SL tomorrow and see what they can do. And I am going to check with the CRT VIP sponsor Costa Rica Fishihg Charters as well.

As for my trip, I am leaning towards staying the entire time in Jaco. I will just take some day trips, perhaps to Quepos. Maybe I'll try to find some ATV riding in the area. Either way, now I am getting excited. This site is a must read before any vacation to CR.

Frank,

while you are in Jaco try the hang gliding. I had a blast. I got the info from the front desk at the Hotel Cocal.

Unfortunately, hang gliding is over for the season from what I hear.

Frank...Canciones del Mar is smaller and quieter by far than the Copa. The rooms are bigger though in general. With 3 of you staying in 3 rooms...especially a week...you can probably negotiate the chica fees issue with the owner/manager. As long as you dont disturb other guests, he shouldnt have any problems. Is a pretty cool european guy.

The Copa has more services probabaly...at least variety of bar and restaurant menu on premises. I have found their food quite good for the price, but someone recently posted a negative on the food there. Could be YMMV.

I would recommend road trips if you have a car, but dont think you'll find Quepos a wonderful place to stay...especially for mongering. Manuel Antonio is nice, but mostly for couples and gay guys  . There is no place like Jaco for beachside mongering in Costa Rica. In my opinion, Tamarindo is not worth the drive, though the beach itself is cleaner and better than Jaco. I would not swim in the ocean at Jaco...VERY polluted.

Have fun, and use BOTH heads...
