Air Florida flew Electras. I don't know the actual model but it might have been the L-188A

AF started out flying Electras. As they expanded their route structure through out the US and then to International flights they added Boeing 707/727/737 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9 & DC-10 equipment.

I just bought my tickets for a return trip and they were with Contential out of Houston for $600.00. I wish I would have known how much I was going to fall in love with CR and bought them both when they were at $400, like my first trip was.

I seem to remember reading something about the wings falling off electras in the late 50's or early 60's. ID?
Also as to the glory days of flying, I worked for United in NY back in the 60's while going to college. One of my jobs was to emboss (in gold) personalized name tags and matches of the first class passengers for the long hauls out of JFK. Like ID mentioned, we provided prime rib carved at your seat on in first class on the 'DC8's to LA, SFO and HNL runs. People would show up in suits, ties, hats and the ladys would wear minks.
Lots of style in those days.

Base fares from San Fran are still $250. Charlotte, Phoenix, Philly, and Pittsburgh are now $270 (Only $350 after you add taxes/fees/surcharges).

The above fares are all on American Airlines. Delta has matched only in Charlotte so far.

Which airline or are there multiple airlines offering deals? Are there time frames? When I checked SJO/PHL last week, for travel first part of October, fares were about $600.00 R/T.

I D, when I last saw the low fare out of Philly, it was only for travel by June 16th (or around that time frame).

I haven't seen low fares posted yet for travel late August through October.

I just keep checking, maybe the low fares for late summer and autumn will start showing up in May or June.

I have to respectfully disagrre with the comparison regarding the cost of cigarettes, gasoline, and air fares...

The first two activities, smoking and driving. are activities that lead to addiction. Air travel, although quite pleasing and entertaining, is not an usually addictive.

Seems to be addictive when the destination is SJO

Sure hope they do. Not anxious to spend $600.00 but this is a family thing so is time sensitive. Can not go a week earlier or later to save a few bucks.

Best deal I could find for my June/July trip was $454.00 total, roundtrip, out of WASHINGTON/DULLES on USAIRWAYS. Booked it through TRAVELOCITY. The fare didn't show up on the USAIRWAYS website. That's $116.00 more than I paid for my last January/February trip.

Funny thing.......one time I would check the TRAVELOCITY website and this fare would show up, the next time it wouldn't. I thought I'd better get it before it disappeared altogether. Glad now that I did. Not a bad deal.

yes, right now, that is probably the best one will find out of the DC/Baltimore airports.

one website I check, seems to limit all the less expensive fares to travel completed by June 16th.

Last year, for the september trip, I think I found a low fare posted after the mid june deadlines had been extended to at least mid october.

I just don't know when discounted fares for travel after mid June will be posted.

some other members around here, DC metro area, like Redman have also found really low fares and been able to book roundtrip for less than $300 total later in the year/season.

but for now, mid $400's may be the best we can expect out of the mid atlantic region for travel after the middle of June.

It's amazing the difference a few hundred miles will do.

Flights out of Newark are running around $580.00

However, last February there was a fare on Continental for $412.00 + taxes and fees which came to a total of about 480.00.

I'd very happy if I could get that airfare everytime.

I keep checking at least twice daily but unfortunately, it doesn't look promising at all.

Yes, Travelocity shows $270 RT from Phoenix, but when you go to book the dates that you want/need, they're likely not available at that price. I just booked RT from PHX for June 3-11 (weekend travel) on American Airlines for $642., and $622. from Oakland.

It annoys me a little bit when they make it sound like you can fly somewhere for $270., but then it ends up realistically being more than twice that amount.

I guess if you have flexible dates and can easily travel on Tuesdays and Wedesdays, its easier to capitalize on the cheaper fares.

I'm still trying to book my Memorial Day flight and I hope that I can fly TACA again. It's the best flight to me, only 5 hours non-stop and the flights are usually pretty good. (JFK-SJO)

Right now it's at $542, but I'm hoping I can get it for $450 by the end of april or early may, once the rainy season starts. I'm holding out, I don't think it will be any higher than this.

I'd rather pay $542 to fly TACA non-stop than the $490 on AA or USAir and have a 3 hour layover in Miami or Charlotte. $50 is a small price to pay for 4-5 extra hours in SJ.
