I will be in San Jose from May 16 to the 21st. I'm looking for someone to share a boat with and still haven't decided where to stay. This is my first time there so any recommendations would be great!

Or Amon Plaza, Castillo, Morazan, Gran Via, etc. Just do a search for hotels. There has been enough info posted to give you eye strain reading the posts.

Also info on fishing, although to a lesser degree, will be turned up in a search.

Ptstraining,
Welcome to the board. As stated, you must use the search function, and read as much as possible. The answers to all your questions (and more) are only a few keystrokes away!
Mucho Gusto

You might want to stay & fish in the same place. The hotel Del Rey would be perfect since it has a large pond full of freshwater tuna right in the lobby. Most of what you will catch is between 90 & 130 lbs and tastes delicious. Just don't eat EVERYTHING you catch. If it's more than 140 lbs or has it's own tartar sauce you might want to throw it back. 8)

While I am sure there are some freshwater tuna mixed it is my experience is that the primary species is pink snapper.

As long as we don't hear about the crabs being plentiful ... It should remain a fine place to fish. Don't ya just hate something nippin' at your bait all the time?

I love the descriptions of "Pink Snapper" in Del Rey. I hope this guy realizes the DR is only 150 KM from the Ocean!!

My newbie friend,

Seeing how "this guy" first came to Costa Rica before the Del Rey existed and has lived in San Jose for over 2 years I think he might have figured out the geography even without benefit of a GPS.

I stay at the Courtyard Marriott in SJ. The Sleep Inn is new and right next to the Del Rey. I fish in Los Suenos which is near Jaco. I stay at the Marriott there. The marina is very large. Quepos is another town that you can fish. It's not as nice but you can fly there on a small plane. Not alot of chicas too. I hope this helps.

The Sleep Inn is not chica friendly. At very best it can be described as chica tolerant. The guest fee is an outrageous $30.00. They would prefer you not have a guest rather than have you pay the fee.

Definitely would not stay there.
