First of all, I have been around: Thailand, China, Brasil, etc. So no newbie excepet for CR.

The key questions re: my trip to CR in late May.

Am I serioulsy hurting by not speaking spanish? What percentage of the chicas speak a little english?

My plan. three/four nights at the Presidente. Go crazy. Or, why not stay at DR?

Five/six nights via rental car to Jaco and MA. I am getting mixed reviews of Jaco. Is it dead on weekdays?Tgis whole great forum is full of info. But these are my most direct questions.

Muchos gracias!!!!

Pros speak english..... if you are in the gulch most will speak at least some english. If you plan to get off the beaten path you better start learning Espanol. On my first trip I only spoke a few words and I did ok.

It will be a better experience all around if you can speak the lauguage. I have been studying for my return trip in April!

Peterspace,
Welcome to the board. But, as with all newbies to the board, you must take some time to read, read, read. Everything you've asked can be answered by reading through some posts, doing a search and/or reading the Newbie Section. There are so many FAQ's, that it's imperative that you take the time to read the info that is available to you.

BTW, there's going to be a large group of CRT members in CR at the end of May, for Memorial Day Weekend. It should be easy to find yourself a wing-man for that weekend. But you're going to have to search the board to find out more info on that weekend. And, yes...... speaking some español will definitely be a benefit.

Again, welcome to the board.

Yes, have been reading this great forum....

Question, I am a freebird, can travel whenever. Should I avoid Mem Day weekend?

Too many gringos like me? More guys than in-season?

That's up to you. It depends on what you're looking for.

If you're only going to CR for the poossy, then it doesn't matter when you go. But if you want to meet some of the respected members of this board, and participate in some of the pre-planned activities, then I'd recommend that you consider going Memorial Day weekend.

IMHO, some of the best times in CR, are from meeting other like-minded members, and making new friendships. Poossy is always easy to find, but good friends don't come along quite as often. YMMV.

For me I would say 80% of the action in the whole country is in SJ. If you are there for pu*sy then stay there.

It is a two hour drive to Jaco, 1.5 hour drive to Valcano Poas. 1.5 hour drive to the rainforest and waterfalls. 4 hours to port lemon on the atlantic.

Before I spent 1/2 my trip outside SJ I would ask myself why I was going.

Hotel DR is ground zero, The presedente is 1.5 blocks away. Try both. we get a discount at the pres.

Peterspace,

Back to the original question; you don't have to know any Español to get by. However, it sure opens the world up for you down there.

I'm studying it, but I go fairly frequently. Just being able to understand what the chica’s are saying to each other about us gringos at BM or KL makes the effort worth it!

Stinky
