OK. So my first trip to CR is this May. I'll be looking for fun.... not a bummer at the door when I bring Ms. Right to the Presidente.

My plan (and, please tell me if this makes sense):

1. Assume that the chicas have figured out that having a grment to get them in the Presidente is a good thing.

But...

2. Assume that the women actually haven't figured this out so bring a sweater with me that I could go up and get if the dress code is a big issue which it souds like it is. Play it safe, right?

Or, just bag the Presedente which I don't want to do since I will be staying at SL later that week.... testing a couple of hotels.

By the way, I don't see too many of you guys recommending staying at the Del Rey - why is that?

Most figure out, after a few trips to CR, that the noise, room rates, guest fee are all disadvantages that out weigh the advantage of proximity to the action.

Still a good place for a newbie to stay, in my opinion, to get a taste for the pleasure of CR.

YMMV

Peterspace - I think you have it figured out. You will want a sweater or light coat for San Jose anyway. It migh be 95 on the coast, but under 70 some nights in San Jose. I think if I wanted a chica in my room bad enough I could figure out some combination of clothes that would get her up the elevator.

This is only a LITTLE problem. By now, the pro chicas all know about the dress code. If they don't (Lucky you! A non-pro!) you can run up to your room and bring back to the lobby/front desk/front entry a long shirt, sweater, pants, etc. A minor inconvience. Lucky You!

As I have been saying for quite some time now, those of you who have been complaining anout the dress code will really have something to worry about if/when they enact a 1.chica fee or worse 2. a no guest fee. I have been saying that it is coming at the Presidente AND the Clarion. Then maybe you will understand how well Admin has done for everyone "Up till now". I happen to know for a fact the the new Sleep Inn is doing VERY WELL despite the fact that they are doing almost no advertising AND charging an exorbitant chica fee of $30/ chica. They don't have to worry about mixing families and mongers and the inherrant problems that creates. I still maintain that we should all keep our mouths shut (except for Admin) and pray that the current system prevails for a while longer. The Hotels' purpose for allowing us to have lenient treatment and discounts was originally to fill vacant rooms. Well, guess what,if the time isn't upon us now it will be soon enough, when they realize that they can fill the rooms at rack-rate. So I agree that those of you who are offended that the Hotel won't let your favorite OVER-EXPOSED chica into your room, will have a real problem to deal with. There aren't enough rooms in SJ to accomodate everyone who wants to be here during the High Season.

High season is only December-April.

My understanding from conversations in the News Cafe is the Pres dropped the Chica fee because they were losing business.. I don't know if that's true or not but I'd bet the doom and gloomers that believe the Pres is about to enact a no-chica policy or will add an onerous chica fee are wrong. But I would agree it's best to just run up to the room and grab something for her to wear and not worry about it. I don't stay there but now at least we all know to be prepared for it. Who cares in the end as long as she gets up to the room and follows through on her commitment to excellence.

I first stayed at the Presidente in 1992. They did not have a chica fee then and I have never known them to have one since so if they dropped it for lack of business it was long long ago.

Last time I stayed at the Prez I didn't see anyone that I suspected was there on a family vacation. But maybe because it was rainy season. Pretty much every website - besides this one of course - tells adventure travelers to get out of the city as quickly as possible and "see all the beautiful things that CR has to offer". (yes, I know what you're thinking and I agree! )

The hotel probably wouldn't give such a huge discount if they didn't want CRT business. They're probably just worried about their image. I figure they just want people to keep it low key so they can get business from all different groups (the best of all worlds). Someone else suggested it earlier, but just buy a cheap $10 plastic kneelength raincoat and stash it at the Front Desk or Bell Stand on your way out of the hotel.
