I'm going to CR the first week of April and I'm looking to get in some fishing with 4 other guys. We want to do a day trip, any suggestions? We may go to Jaco too, so if there's anything around there, that would work too.

That all depends on what you want to pay for a day. Book early, boats are hard to get this year.

Jmpereira,
Welcome to the board.

Use the search function at the top of the page. There's numerous threads about fishing in CR. Do you want to do a full day, or a half day? Do you want to go offshore, inshore, or back-country fishing? Are all 5 guys going fishing ? Are you planning on taking chica's with you? If so, you'll need a good size boat. Do you want to catch fish to eat, or just for sport ? Have you, or any guys in your party fished offshore before ? Is anyone in your party prone to Mal de Mar (seasickness)? Have you already designated a "Master-Baiter" for the trip ? (just kidding)

Seriously, read some of the various threads on fishing in CR. If you can't find an answer to your questions, PM me and I'll try to help you out. Either way, I can almost guarantee you that you're going to enjoy it!

Mikey-B

If you go to Jaco, check out David Shulda at the Golden Rod--he knows all the boats/captains and can accomodate your fishing needs, as well as anything else you may need

Jmpereira - Best fishing charter to take?

Tough to answer, since many variables involved. If you want to just take a day trip that would probably limit you to Jaco, or perhaps Quepos. Many of the other good fishing locations are too far away to handle in a day.

As Mikey-B said, it also depends on what kind of fishing you want to do. If it were me, and I was with 4 buddies, I would charter a nice big boat and go play with the billfish for a full day. If anyone in your party has never done this type of fishing it will be a great experience for them. If you have gone offshore in other places around th eworld, my guess is that the fishing will be even better in CR.

I responded to BarachitoBombero fishing question just below, describing the full day charter I took out of Quepos. The captain was awesome, both in personality and ability. He has caught several world record fish and you could tell he would be fishing by himself if no one was paying him to go. I will be happy to give you information for that boat. If I was going out to Quepos, I would head out the night before, and fish in the morning. After a great day of fishing, jump in a van and you can be drinking in the BM by early evening.

Have fun. Feel free to pm me with questions.
