We have lost a CRT brother and friend!

The more I run this web site the more fine gentlemen I have come to not only meet on a casual basis but have gotten to know many of you on a more personal level. I have just received the sad news that we have lost a good friend & CRT brother today Paulie aka Screen name (Painman). Paulie passed away today at home & it’s a sad day that I have to pass on this to our brotherhood.

To those of you who know Paul he has been a good friend and active participant in our Tampa Chapter meetings and recently was working on opening a business in San Jose as a licensed massage Therapist. He is well known at the Sportsmen’s Lodge and Bill & his staff was even assisting him in attempting to get set up as a legitimate business in San Jose.

Personally this hits very close to home to me as I had not seen Paul in over a year yet I ran into him last week at the Presidente and he couldn’t have been happier. He was in the best of spirits & I even spoke to him this past Friday morning regarding his upcoming new business & hearing this very sad news tonight is not only shocking but a great loss for the CRT community.

Paul will be sorely missed by the CRT brotherhood, & all the lives you have touched and the people you have met in our little world. My condolences go out to his family and know that wherever you are Paul, I you are in your own Pura Vida.

Rest in Peace my brother & friend.

Please feel free to add your comments to those of you who knew Paul.

I too am deeply saddened to hear that Pablo has passed.

He was a great guy!!!!

He knew how to have a good time and always made sure to make those around him laugh. The whole Costa Rica scene is new to me and I was lucky to meet such a fine gentleman on one of my visits. i remember thinking to myself, "damn, i'm sitting here in Costa Rica hanging out with a 72 year old man and having a great time." I have a smile on my face just thinking about him as I write this.

R.I.P. Pablo.

I did not know this gentleman, but nevertheless would like to offer my deepest condolences to those who did.

What hits home about this for me is how sometimes in life I think you just need to stop playing it safe and follow your dreams. Not long after discovering Costa Rica last year, I had it in the back of my mind that someday I might want to make a clean break and spend the rest of my life there.

But I always saw it as a more distant thing - something I could make happen at an age when my retirement pension would allow me to live comfortably and not have to think about working.

Now all I can say is phuck it - it's time to go for it - sooner rather than later.

Sad to hear about Painman, and also that I didn't get the chance to meet him.
In response to GR's post- Another guy I knew passed away 2 weeks ago at 46. that's 3 amigos in the last year of heart failure, all in their 40's. It really makes you think about what's important and realize time is our most valued commodity, we need to "stop and smell the kittens" as Florida puts it. I read JazzMusician's thread this morning- he's about to make the move to Rio and live the dream also, Good luck GR & Jazz and keep us posted.. PuraVida

It's always sad to hear of a fallen brother, especially so young. My condolences go out to his family and friends. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I hope he was able to find happiness in his life.

While it is always sad to hear of the passing of a brother it is comforting to know that his last days in this life were happy ones where he was living his dream.

Life is short my friends, do not get so caught up in the rat race that you leave this earth never realizing your dreams.

Rest In Peace Brother Paul. We will all join you some day and regal in recounting our adventures.

I'm deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a fellow CRT Tampa Chapter member. I had the pleasure of meeting him only one time,
a little over a year ago at one of our Tampa Chapter meetings.
If I recall correctly, there was a large turnout that day...Admin1 and
Johnnie Black were even in attendance. I was kind of wondering why Painman/Paul did not show up at our most recent meetings. I never had the pleasure of traveling to CR with him, but I just know it would have been some party! My thoughts and prayers are with his family/loved ones. RIP my friend.

I met Paul over a year ago, and had the pleasure to hang out with him again this Christmas. What a fun-loving guy.

No one would ever have guessed his age (72?). He had a bounce in his step and more energy than many of us. He told me he took a Cialis with his OJ every morning. Besides his massage business, he had a constant stream of chicas chasing him.

He also had a funny business card with his title Reverend Paul . . . He was ordained in some church in Florida (I think), and actually performed some weddings for friends. But his card listed crazy services that he offered, all in jest. He told me that when he showed the card to a chica, she typically would say "Oh, so you're a Padre?" To which Paul responded with the line I'll always remember from him: "Yes, but Padres need pu*sy too!"

Pablo, you were an inspiration.
