On my last trip, a few of us were asking ourselves the following:
1. Did these girls learn the profession from their mummies? I know some other mothers know and completely approve of their daughter's occupation. I know one girl, who calls her mommy, when she has a question about something or doesn't know what to charge.
2. If the answer is yes, then is it something that has been passed down generation to generation? In otherwords, grandma to mother to daughter to baby. Is this why some ticas are so fair and have lighter eyes??? Generations of mixing with gringos. I know a tica who looks friggin' american - 100%.
3. If the answer is still yes, do they time their first pregnancies with the eventual thought of retirement in mind? So, a chica has her first baby at 16, intentionally with the thought of her golden years in mind. Let's assume this baby is a girl. This means in 18 years or so, when she is 34 and a little burnt out, she retires and then her (now) girl can start training?
I can't believe the answer is yes for 100% of these chicas, but I have to believe that for some, it is. The third question is perhaps the most disturbing. I know in some countries, it is absolutely true. Is it true in the relatively comfortable economy of CR??? I'm scratching my head and get a little sad when I think of their Babi*s. And, then when I think about 20 years into the future when I'm in my mid-50s, I really freak out.
