Mistake? What was Jmac's mistake? Did he give incorrect info? Is there not, in fact, a currency exchange booth as you are exiting the building?

He didn't advise the guy to exchange money at the airport, he merely pointed out where the currency exchange booth was. As far as what he said, it's pretty much all factual. The taxi booth is actually outside the building, not as you're walking out, but the rest is fine. Sorry, but I gotta stick up for my boy Jmac here.

1. The exchange rate is horrible and a rip off.

2. There is a bank at the airport that exchanges at the current bank rate.

3. There is an ATM at the airport that, even given any foreign exchange fees from your bank, would yield a better rate than the exchange booth.

Errors of omission are just as serious as errors of commission. I consider given a newbie half an answer rather than all the answer a mistake. YMMV

Bottom line...... don't worry about exchanging money as soon as you get off the plane. It is not necessary. Just make sure that you bring some small bills with you. You can pay cash for your taxi ride to your hotel.

Once you get there:
- Check into your hotel (colones not necessary)
- Get settled into your room (colones not necessary)
- Go to the bar and have a cocktail (colones not necessary)
- Grab a bite to eat (colones not necessary)
- Go to an MP to take the edge off (colones not necessary)
- Go back to your hotel and get ready to start your vacation.

Now......at this point in time, you can figure out where to exchange your money, and how much. Don't sweat the little things. Just go and have fun!
