I will be making my virgin trip in May and have been reading and re-reading stuff on here getting ready. I had been planning to buy a CRT cap, and to pick up my free cap at The News Cafe to wear at least my first day or two - sort of to help identify myself as a member of the brotherhood. But I have read a few things here referring to the aversion many of the girls carry for CRT. So, does that mean it might be counter productive with the chicas should I display the symbol proudly while checking out the live merchandise, say in the DR/BM? Oh, there's so much a newbie has to know.

If there were indeed any "aversion" because you were identified as being a member of CRT, I would argue the net effect would be productive. She's making your job easier by narrowing your choices to more quality women. For the most part being a member would mark you as a non-newbie that's familiar with the general scene that won't pay cien and/or fall for paying up front for rushed service.

The free Hotel Presidente cap is very nice, and I don't think it is associated at all in the girl's minds with CRT. In fact, I'm not sure you would be noticed as CRT by most other CRT guys with the hat on.

Here's my dos colones:

Unless you're bald or have a penchant for wearing a ball cap regularly, skip the lid. I think that ticos & ticas have a different fashion sense than our very casual norteamericano garb. I don't see the preponderance of ball caps or shorts like we do in the states.

Dress like a sexy bitch, it can't hurt.

RHM,

Thanks for the advice.

Let me go over this again to make sure I've got it right. I have my khaki pants and my conservative yet fashionably tropical Tommy Bahama shirts. I have a new supply of generic Vitamins V & C on order. (Thank goodness for Indian Pharmaceutical companies, but that's another thread.) I will leave the baseball caps at home. I've started to take weekly group Salsa lessons and I'm up to level 3 on my Pimsleur tapes.

It seems I'm forgetting something ... oh yea, and my new mantra as I go to sleep every night is: "Never pay cien ... "

Delaware Guy,
Don't sweat it. Don't get over anxious. You'll be fine. Dress comfortable, learn some Español, act like a gentleman, and treat the chica's with some respect. You'll do just fine! Just don't "over-think" everything. Don't make too many plans, because they'll all go to shit anyway. Go with the flow. And remember.....It's Costa Rica baby. Pura Vida !!!! Just relax and have fun........................

Mikey-B,

Actually I was kind of making fun of myself and the whole newbie thing. In reality I will certainly go with the flow my entire visit. But for now, having recently gratefully relinquished my membership in the M-Men's club, I am having a ball reading about, arranging for, and eagerly anticipating my trip. Afterall, it's only about 85 days until touchdown. I've got to pass the time doing something.
